UPDATE! #2
If you live in the United States, have a Xbox 360 and broadband access, and want to give Xbox Live a try, you are in luck! From March 31 through April 2 Verizon is sponsoring a Free Xbox Live Gold Weekend. Not only does this mean gamers will have 72 hours of multiplayer gaming online, but there will also be tons of prizes, contests, and other surprises.

Check out the details below and mark your calendar for a weekend you don't want to miss.

Top Weekend Events
Speaking of things you don't want to miss, here are just a few of the hot weekend events headed your way:

* Frag Doll Friday: Take on Ubisoft's fierce gaming crew on Sunday, April 2, starting at 6 P.M. Eastern (3 P.M. Pacific) in Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter.
* Beat the Xbox Team: Challenge Xbox insiders to College Hoops 2K6, Bankshot Billiards 2, and EA SPORTS Fight Night Round 3. Earn bragging rights and win awesome Xbox prizes!

Verizon Million Microsoft Points Giveaway
As if all that wasn't enough, Verizon is sponsoring a giveaway of one million Microsoft Points! While supplies last, you can grab 500 Microsoft Points courtesy of Verizon. Redeem them for cool Xbox Live Arcade games, themes, gamer pictures, and more in the Xbox Live Marketplace.

Note this is for U.S. residents only. Broadband connection, Xbox 360 storage device (hard drive or memory unit), and free Xbox Live Silver membership required. Players who have previously been banned from Xbox Live are ineligible.
-------------------------------------------------

Earlier last year Microsoft made a promise to Xbox Live Silver users. A promise that they seem to have kept. Microsoft said that during some weekends they'll offer full Xbox Live Gold memberships for Silver users. On the Xbox.com calendar page it states that on the weekend, starting April 1, they'll be offering silver users all the benefits of the Gold membership for 72 hours. The weekend is sponsored by Verizon, which probably must have paid quite a hefty amount to Microsoft. So if you're still a Silver Member and would like to play some of your games online (without the use of Xlink Kai or something similar) then mark your calendar for April 1'st

UPDATE!

Last week we reported about the free Xbox Live Gold Weekend, where Silver members get all the benefits of the Gold Membership for 72 hours, to take place from April 1. Well it seems as though Microsoft did pull an early April fools joke on us afterall. According to the Gamerscore Blog (maintained by Microsoft employees) the whole thing was bogus. "The Xbox.com team pulled it down, because the dates were tentative, and details of the promotion still haven’t been finalized. We'll share details as soon as we can" reads the blog.

So it's not all bad, Microsoft is keeping their promise to provide free Xbox Live Gold weekends. They leave us with this bit of info: "As you might have guessed, it's coming soon. " We'll update you with all the details as soon as we hear a marked date for this event.

heh, Microsoft is such a noob. Anyway, at least they're not giving their fans' hopes up by letting them know it's coming soon. Still, not a good move on their part.

There are 2 things I wanna point out. "Microsoft" and "Free", I don't think I've ever seen those two words in the same sentence. As for it coming soon, we'll have to wait and see about that. But I hope you all realize it's jsut a marketing ploy to get the silver members to experience the Gold Status and then like it so much they too go out and spend money to go online with the only system that charges money to go online. Seriously, if you have that much money to throw out, send some my way.

They need to ACTUALLY do it before they can say that, and that doesn't prove anything. We all know it's just a marketing ploy. They want people to have a taste of the online play and get them to like it enough to actually upgrade so microsoft can feast on more money from those willing to pay the only company that charges for online gameplay. Microsoft being loyal to their customers? Yeah right! Down under will have frozen over when that happens.

Update based on the update in 1st post: That proves my point and also disproves on of my others, sort of. Is Microsoft using it as a amrketing ploy? Probably, but if you look, they got some other company, this one being Verison, to pay for what Microsoft would lsoe for it. In otherwords, Microsoft doesn't care less about their customers, just money. Had they cared about the customers, they would have offered it without needing a company to sponsor it.

They do care about their customers... because customers = money, no customers = no money. So though they may care for customers in a different way, they still do care <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... >/blum.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' />
Also a while back they distributed Service pack 2 or 3, which including delivery, and the cost of the burning onto CD's, and the user got it for free, no charge what so ever.

Oh for the Love of God! <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... Debate.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'(debate)\' /> I've Had Just about enough of this. Who cares if its a Marketing Ploy?! Huh?! Who Cares?! Do you? No! Do I? NO! What it Proves, Is i was Right, you where wrong. Face It, Microsoft offers The Most Games Online, The Most Players Online At Once. IN one Lobby. /in most games/ and With Such a Mass of Useres, Offers The MOST STABLE Online Network, NO i dont Have Numbers to back that up, but nore do i need them. And For Another Thing, I dont care if nintendo Offers there Online thing for free, THEY ONLY DO IT BECAUSE THERES ONLY ONE GAME ONLINE! (for teh game Cube) Sheesh, And Besides, I'm Happy to Pay for something, that works great, and offers Some of the Best gameplay Availible Today. For the type of games i like to play online. Now I'm Not Gonna Be a @$$ and Hide Behind a Closed topic. <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... cookie.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'(mine)\' />

Good, because it makes me mad when people hide behind their powers like that. Now it's my turn, unlike you, I'm gonna prove you wrong without yelling and using the 1 thing you don't seem to have, Logic. Who cares if it's a marketing ploy? Well, no one really, but I just like to point out alterior motives than this "customer care" you speak of. Most games online? Yeah, I agree with that since Nintendo has... 4, soon to be 5 games online. But the ones Nintendo has are gold and deffinantly don't get boring, though I'm not sure about the ones on X-box. And why does Microsoft have the most online games? because they need to offer a wide variety in order to get people to keep paying for their service. Would you pay for it if they didn't allow so many games online. Besides, it's not completely a company's fualt for amount of games online. You think Microsoft makes half of their games? You think Nintendo and Sony make all thier games? Tech, I don't think so. It's also up to 3rd party companies too ya know. So strike that down for Microsoft. Most players online at once? What exactly are you basing that off of? The amount of people able to play in a single round or the number of people it can hold online, cause let me tell ya, the Wi-fi connection probably trumps that. Also, do you have any evidence of this? Now I talked to you about this last night, you CAN say you THINK they have the most stable connection, but guess what, ya can't say that they do. Why? Because you have no evidence, you have no proof, and I doubt you've tried many, if any, of the other systems online play. You don't have ANY DS games that goes on Wi-fi, you don't have that 1 gamecube game that goes online, and I doubt you've played PS2's online play at ALL! So most stable conenction: OPPINION and nothing but. Actually, Nintendo and Sony offer online play probably because they can afford it since they don't LOSE money for every system they own. Atleast they know how to make a profit off a system.

I'll keep this short and Sweet. Ok Then Super Mario, Tell me this if you know so much, If microsoft cares only about money, then why are they selling a system, that loses them money, for every system sold? By the sounds of things, Microsoft rather Take a Huge loss the charge there customers a huge Bundle.
