Atari announces The Matrix: Path of Neo
Atari's Enter the Matrix was certainly an ambitious title, but unfortunately due to the need to rush release it in line with the movie sequels it suffered from quite a few bugs that marred an otherwise enjoyable action adventure in the Matrix universe. Now with the announcement that Shiny Entertainment is hard at work on the sequel The Matrix: Path of Neo, there's hope that Matrix fans might finally get the game they want ie. you get to play as Neo, and free from the pressures on development time that a simultaneous film release entails.
The Matrix: Path of Neo will enable players to actually play as "Neo," the central character, and relive his most important and memorable scenarios from all three of the Matrix films. Throughout the game, the path the player takes to resolve each scenario and the resulting consequences will be scripted and directed by the Wachowski Brothers. The likenesses of all of the films' key actors - including Keanu Reeves ("Neo"), Laurence Fishburne ("Morpheus"), Carrie-Ann Moss ("Trinity), and Hugo Weaving ("Agent Smith") - will be featured, and footage from all three feature films as well as The Animatrix will be included.
"We couldn't be more thrilled to be embarking on a new Matrix project," said Jim Caparro, President and Chief Executive Officer of Atari. "The Wachowski Brothers have created a universe that is uniquely deep and rich, with virtually limitless creative possibilities, and the interactive space is the ideal world in which to explore them. With The Matrix: Path of Neo, the Wachowski Brothers will be giving their legions of fans the best of everything: the first chance to personally relive Neo's journey, and the chance to experience new adventures they cannot yet even imagine."
"I'm very happy to continue my collaboration with Larry and Andy on all things Matrix and beyond," said Joel Silver, producer of the Matrix film trilogy. "Enter The Matrix added another exciting chapter to the legend. I'm thrilled that we are further expanding and exploring the vast Matrix universe through The Matrix: Path of Neo."
" ... " said the Wachowski brothers, rather predictably.
The prospect of actually being Neo is certainly an exciting one, seeing as though a) he's indestructible and /shades.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' /> chicks love Keanu, so we'll be paying considerably attention to this one as more details emerge.
