okay...you all know we have a small disagreement going with the township here regarding the Cafe.

What if we do a small survey online and get support for it? Here's my idea:

I print out some business type cards with "Do You Want an Internet Cafe & Gaming Centre in Aldergrove?" across the top, with a link on it like [url=\"http://www.killacafe.com/survey.php\"]http://www.killacafe.com/survey.php[/url] and a control number. We hand out these cards all over town...i.e. I get Michael and his friends to do it. The kids go online, enter their control number if they have one--if they don't have one, one will have to be generated for them, I guess--need a way to control who is using the cards. Anyway, once they get past the control number login, they answer a few questions like yes or no for the Cafe, lan parties, etc etc etc I haven't thought of what else yet. The answers are then compiled in a statistically useful way for me to present to the Township. For anyone who does the survey, they'll get a free hour when the Cafe opens, providing they bring in the card they were given (yes I know we'll have to have some way to prevent fakes, probably a hard to identify font.)

The challenge is, I need this ASAP so post your ideas, work together, do whatever it takes to get this online and working as fast as possible.

oh yeah (edit) I need it to log ip's or isp's of each visit too, so I can prove the connections were local.

So basically a poll system but with a log-in type system correct?

yes, as long as the login system also logs the connection, it's very important that I be able to prove local connections and not worldwide ones.

that's fine...now I just need to come up with control questions.

Age, Sex, Support Cafe (yes, no), Check what you would like to use the computers for: email, chat, surfing, gaming, inhouse lan parties, international gaming tournaments, being able to use computer graphics or development software they don't have at home---those would be a "check all that apply---and uhm others but Josh interrupted my chain of thought in the staffroom.....

Perhaps something along the lines of "If you were a member of the Cafe Gaming Team, would you feel it part of your responsibility to keep the Cafe a safe place to be"

Well it looks as if I'm creating the poll and I'll get the database working on my hosting, but once the script is done it'll be up to whoever to create the database on KC's space lol

I don't think that you can create the databases, but you can create the tables automatically.

$query = "CREATE_TABLE etc etc"

And then just query it like normal.

I think thats a great idea ada; perhaps have a wee glossary beneath for things like what a LAN partie is etc, but i think its brilliant, hmm is there someway someone could just come online and get a number? because that way you could have posters placed strategically around the town, even if its one of thsoe ones describing it with the wee rip off tabs at the bottom, say with the link and a number, ohh that would work! lol
