What did you go to college for?

Post by Josh »

Hey,
I thought it would be neat if we shared what we are (or have) gone to college for. What majors you hold or what major you're in progress with.. etc... I'll start ;p

I want a major in 3D Animation & Visual Effects and I will be starting my progress on this beginning in fall of 2008. I was thinking of getting a secondary education in Photography... but I don't think I have enough money to do all that lol

I'm not sure what a major is, being from the other side of the pond..

Though at college I studied for 2 years for my qualification in "Information & Communications Technology"

unfortunately, the course only reaffirmed things I already knew, if I were to consider University in the future, it'd be for some kind of business course, maybe business & advertising/marketing.

First two years was just "general education" at the local community college, undeclared major but the credits would have transfered anywhere so I could start as a junior at a 4 year school...now I'm going for Computer Network systems, after which I hope to do Information Systems Security <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... iggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />
Love is all a matter of timing.

It's no good meeting the right person too soon or too late.

If I'd live in another time or place...

...my story might have had a very different ending.

First time around - Criminology on the forensics side of the industry along with English Literature & Modern History.

Second time around - Journalism, Creative Writing & Media Relations along with Ancient History (it was great for the research credits in the Journalism part).

Apart from that, I never stop learning nor researching things. If you stop learning, you stop living. <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... igwink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\';)\' />

I'm in my 3rd (omg I've been going to school that long?) year of College. My major is "information systems and Decision Sciences (ISDS)" which can also be called IT (information technology), MIS(management information systems), IS(information systems), MIT(management information technology), and about 10 other things. My major does several things:

1) It's in the college of business, so you learn tons of buisness skills, and awesome tools that a person could use for everyday things in your life from management of people, to your money, and what a T chart is and why it's useful.

2) Allows you to go into \Internal Auditing of IT. << cool job. Basically you go into an organization and analyse their systems and processes. Then you tell them, ok you are losing efficency in these areas, and need to do soemthing about it. They tell you which they would like to change. You go back to the office, redesign those parts of their process and automate it as much as possible. Then you tell someone to build this, it has to do ...whatever.... and you have this much time to do it in with this budget. That person (a project manager) turns around and does it. You go back into the organization with the new process and software to make it work, and send a team in to train the people how to use it. <<< pretty cool job lol

3) You can go into Security.... self explainitory and boring lol

4) You can go into hardware, and help desk type jobs <<BOO YUK GROSS!!!!

5) You can go into ecommerce business and run websites, build them, market them, manage, and any and everything else. <<< this is what I do. PLUS I do the internal Audit for the company I work for now.

Right now.... I actually do some security work, some hardware and troubleshoot, and I use my business skills everyday, but mostly I market and manage a site, and then I redesign processes quite a bit. Plus I'm a consaultant for all IT investments, and implimenations.
