To the Tabula Rasa Community,
Last November we launched what we hoped would be a ground breaking sci-fi MMO. In many ways, we think we've achieved that goal. Tabula Rasa has some unique features that make it fun and very different from every other MMO out there. Unfortunately, the fact is that the game hasn't performed as expected. The development team has worked hard to improve the game since launch, but the game never achieved the player population we hoped for.
So it is with regret that we must announce that Tabula Rasa will end live service on February 28, 2009.
Before we end the service, we'll make Tabula Rasa servers free to play starting on January 10, 2009.
We can assure you that through the next couple of months we'll be doing some really fun things in Tabula Rasa, and we plan to make staying on a little longer worth your while. For more details about what we are doing for Tabula Rasa players, please click here.
Stay tuned for more information. We thank you for your loyal support of the game and encourage you to take us up on the benefits we're offering Tabula Rasa players.
The Tabula Rasa Team

Love is all a matter of timing.
It's no good meeting the right person too soon or too late.
If I'd live in another time or place...
...my story might have had a very different ending.

I wonder if the game really did perform that poorly in regards to sales, or if this is in part due to Richard Garriott's departure from NCSoft.
On the click through page for benefits to subscribers, they at least dropped a hint that the new game, Aion - will be subscription -.-

i played Tabula Rasa and to me is wasnt that good, i think trying to make a shooter game into a mmo doesn't quite work (for me any way)
but im very hopeful for Aion <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... >/blum.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' /> even tho its subscription it looks reallly good.

I think that the closure of TR shows what a risk having a subscription-based game is - people buy the game, invest time into building their characters and in game-play, then poof - it's gone. Not having played TR, is it even playable in an offline mode? If not, then people are left holding a completely worthless piece of game software, and to me that's just not fair.

I'm not sure if u can still play it and yeah it is sad that the ppl who were into it didn't get a chance to keep enjoying it... its a shameI think that the closure of TR shows what a risk having a subscription-based game is - people buy the game, invest time into building their characters and in game-play, then poof - it's gone. to see games go out on a limb and don't succeed, I'm hoping that stargateworlds is going to be a bit more successful..
All up the game wasn't awful.. for me i just didn't really like the whole Gun mmo side of it.
