Yea, it does look untidy, but I like the idea behind it.
Love is all a matter of timing.
It's no good meeting the right person too soon or too late.
If I'd live in another time or place...
...my story might have had a very different ending.

Please do! That was a rough concept of him. lol. You can give him a vector look if you want. I think I'd prefer that over 3D.

We're going to have the same features as dA. What kind of role is this forum going to have in the project?
If we're integrating it, are we dropping gaming/web design forums? Integrating it also means we'd need to move it again.
The alternative (which I'm not too sure about) would be to make this a kn forum and start a new forum with this site. It truly would be fresh but we'd not have any of the posts on here. This would become a company forum, serving kn.net and would still have the gaming/web dev/etc forums.

While I'm not keen on maintaining two forums, I think it would probably be the better solution and would save one helluva lot of headaches. It wouldn't be that big of a deal to get a second perpetual licence for another board. I wouldn't mind turning this forum into a company forum - that said, I do believe that KN itself will take on more of just a corporate role while the other site becomes our main focus.

Sounds good, would actually save a lot more headaches with subdreamer which is installed on the came database.
We'd also be able to skin it without loosing the KN colours.

okay...so a fresh install with no subdreamer integration on a new site...or move subdreamer to the new site with a new forum..... which?

Keep subdreamer with this one, make that the KN corporate site/forum/whatever. New forum fresh install on whichever domain we end up getting for this project.
Remember IPB has a new pricing structure unfortunately.

I know...and we probably negated the pricing on our second copy by not renewing the licence

Liking this idea too. Easier, will save time, and brings up the next questions...
KN corp site... are we going to not renew that now - think that would be best, save a little money. What about other domains we have that we are not really using...
graphicgraphix should redirect to this new stuff if we keep it, not KN right?
Killagaming should also redirect?
speaking of games.... I think the gaming side of this should be added later. Or are we thinking going all out and make both? I would like to think that once the site goes up we can make corrections and make the gaming part equal in value of art work. realizing that some are gaming freaks AND photography freaks, the two should be on the same site, but gaming would have different options of course.... this is a whole other realm of stuff here.... I say keep this discussion for later...

Graphixground expired along time ago, we no longer own that domain.
All of our sites are renewed until 2008. I own killanettechnology.com to protect the name.
killagaming redirects to the forum
gaming isn't a high priority right now - let's build this project and make it successful
I refuse to give up the killanet name, I have too much invested in it. Any projects we build will be owned by killanet.

As for the nesting or not nesting of comments and other functions, why not start with adding the services basic functions and needs and then add to their extra features as we go, if anything that well allow us to receive input from the new members as we build upon them. one idea... why not let each member have a config file, like a prefrences section where they can select 'nested or not nested' and other options, and depending on what they want, it imports their settings.
i know many of these things have been said, but just to show any form of agreement, i think some member staple features should be
profiles - obviously
member page shoutbox
personaly shoutbox
personal message system
category management system for art
keyword specification for art
maybe some other cool features would be
ability to drag and drop around thumbnails if the users will have a thumbnail display of their works
of course art contests
a featured artist.
one of the biggest things i think we should keep in mind is to keep it geared toward a specific subject as we dont want
to be over 'complicated' we want people to be able to go to anypage on the site and know that it is geared towards art art art
and the games.. eh i dont know if they should be on there or not... we have other sites for that if im not mistaken, so instead it's not like we cant promote the other killasites
yes, lets have a store function, and one thing to add would be general merchandise that members can offer their own art in the form of shirts, hats etc.
now of course, lets get into some security issues, they are a little important
Even though this will be a child of killatechnology and it's other network sites... I personaly believe we need to really steer clear of reusing sessions, meaning lets not do like microsoft, and lets just let them have their passport to go everywhere. Why? because that opens up more opportunities for someone to get there things hijacked, and when they do, more places to be affected by that hijacked user.
Anywhere we allow user input, if we can, it will depend on the type of data, limit the length of the submitted string that way if they find an injection hole, they can only inject so much. id do this serverside, at least in a seperate script it's self, i wouldnt do it in the limits of a lame jscode.
for user passwords in the db i think we should do it similar to this process, ive noticed a similarity to this on KB infact.
when they put in their password, md5 it or use some other encryption.. and you can never have enough SALT so Please.. SALT our passwords with a special string of like who knows 20 consecutive A's, then compare that Hash to hashes of member passwords, that way if we get a break in in our db, they dont get nice plain passwords to go about using on the site. the other reason to encrypt them, is as they get passed to the server, there is no way that they will contain sql code when passed to mysql, so that will help from common sql injection attacks to gain access.
there is some more to be said about security, but i know the coders will of course keep things secure as much as possible since we all seem to have good ideas about security so unless i find something vulnerable i cant really comment on that

Thank you for the input, Sean - your knowledge in regards to security is going to be extremely important on this project.
Further to the "comments debate" ...take a look at ebaum's world: http://www.ebaumsworld.com/video/watch/26273/
While it's not quite what we're looking for in regards to commenting on art, I like the way users can turn off the comments if they don't want to see them. Just something else to add into the mix and ponder about.
