Hacker - Part 1

Hacker sat in a chair. The room was lit by one light. The light looked like it was just about to go. His head was loosely hanging down and to the left. His long brown hair acted as a veil for his closed eyes. He had no idea who he was, where he was or who the other two people in the room were. He was loosing blood from his mouth, his nose, everywhere. There was a guy in a black suit who kept hitting him and yelling "Where is it?" and then hitting him again. Hacker had no idea what black suit was talking about. He inaudibly mumbled something. Black suit raised an eye brow and jerked up Hacker's head like he was trying pull it off.
"Say somethin'?" He asked, obviously pissed off at the last 3 hours he wasted here.
"No." Hacker replied.
"No? Don't you want this to stop?" Black suit asked.
"I... do. I don't know where it is." Hacker replied, this time spitting out a large mouthful of his own blood and a tooth.

Black suit let go of Hacker's head and spun around, taking in a deep breath and letting it out slowly.

"One. Last. Time. Where is it?!" Black suit screamed, nearly frothing at the mouth.
"Whatever it is, I don't have it. Let me go." Hacker said in a whisper.
"You know where it is. Now tell me." Black suit pulled out his 9 millimeter and pointed it at Hacker's temple.
"I don't know." Black suit pulled the trigger.

Hacker woke up in his own room. No blood pouring from his mouth and no pain anywhere. He looked at the bed side clock, it read 3:28am. He remembered the digital watch he was wearing on his wrist and he pressed the light button. It showed the day to be monday for four seconds and then the light turned off. Hacker was sweating. Was it all just a bad dream or something else? He rolled over to the end of his bed and got out. He walked to the bathroom and took out a small cup and filled it with the just drinkable water from the tap. He looked at the yellow-green colour of the water and drunk it. He screwed his eyes and swallowed it and went back to bed. He sat there for what seemed like several hours, wondering about the dream and how he got to where he was that very day.

6 years ago, Hacker had the beginnings of a family. A rather good looking, and pregnant, wife. A good house with 3 bedrooms and he lived in a nice suburb. He knew his neighbours and his neighbours neighbours and he was good friends with them. He tried remembering the names of the people but he couldn't. Not even his own wife's name. That depressed Hacker greatly. He remembers one day like a movie he watched thousands of times. He could replay it back in his mind from any point he wished, but this night he played it from the beginning.

He got out of bed that Monday, exactly 6 years to the day, and kissed his wife goodbye. He had to leave for work early. He couldn't remember the company he worked for but it had clients. He remembered that he worked as a white hat hacker and that's where he got the nickname "Hacker" from. He went to work in his brand new car. He remembered his boss telling him about a new client who could bring a lot of buisness to the company. Then he remembered going to the client's company and doing a job there. After doing the job, he headed back to work and cleaned up some loose ends there. He looked at his watch and saw that it was 2 hours past the usual time he gets home. He walked quickly out to his car and drove home. Once home, he knocked on the front door. His wife usually opened it for him and then kissed him and welcomed him back. There was no answer. He knocked louder. Again, no answer. He yelled out his wife's name. Still no answer. He pulled out his keys and fumbled with them and eventually unlocked the door. He yelled out his wife's name again. That eery silence kept coming back. He rushed up to their bedroom to find his wife dead. One shot, right between the eyes. In her fingers he discovered a blank buisness card that said "Don't screw up again." That night, and the next day, he cried.

Suppressed memories they said. All the doctors and councellors he saw over the next year or two thought they knew what the problem was. They thought they knew what it was like to be in his situation. They thought an event might trigger those memories to become unlocked. Hypnosis even. They were wrong. He wanted to remember. He just couldn't.

He fell asleep, finally. He also suffered from mild insomnia. Sleep was short. 3 hours. He woke up at 6:30 and remembered that the day was actually Monday. The 6 year anniversary. After all the doctors and the councellors failed to see what his problem was, or fix it, he went back to work. He can't even remember if it was the same company but the people who worked in it seemed vaguely familiar. He took up the job of white hat hacking again. He hoped that it would bring back some of his lost memories but the past 4 years didn't do it. The only thing that kept him alive was the thought of "maybe today". Maybe today his memories might unlock and he will remember who did this, or at least a clue.

Another guy called "Biscuit" walked up to Hacker. Biscuit got his name from his first hack, cookies. Biscuit was dishonorably discharged from the Army because he got drunk and drove around the nearest town. He used to be a hacker for the army. He was not fat, just big-boned. He still had his army hair cut and he was always clean shaven. Hacker on the other hand was 6 foot, long brown hair and looked like he hadn't shaven for a week. That was kind of true but it was actually two weeks. He was lazy when it came to personal hygiene.

"Hey. How's it going?" Biscuit asked.
Hacker looked up, not saying anything.
"Oh. Today is..."Biscuit trailed off. Hacker nodded.
"Damn... Hey! I've got something that'll cheer you up! We've got a new client. They are Bismouth Industries." Biscuit said enthusiastically.
"And that is suppose to cheer me up... how?." Hacker asked cynically.
"They are paying triple for any job we do for them." Biscuit said, still enthusiastic. He was always like that.
"And? Money doesn't matter to me."
"But... that's $990 dollars a JOB! Some of us don't even get paid that a week or even a fortnight.
"Money doesn't matter to me. As long as I help people then it keeps me happy." Something clicked in Hacker's mind. "What was their name again?"
"Bismouth Industries."
"I... remember them. From before my wife died. Sure we've never done buisness with them?"
"I'm sure, there's no records of them on the system or in the backups. I checked already."
"When do we leave?"
"Tomorrow. Come here first, I'll drive us there."
"Ok. See you tomorrow."
Biscuit and Hacker walked off in different directions. They didn't notice the guy in the black suit sitting across from the reception area. No one did.

Next - Bismouth Industries

Hacker - Part 2: Bismouth Industries

Something about the name stirred something in Hacker's head. A distant memory. Trying to remember it just forced it further away so he tried to keep his mind off it. They had a 4 hour, uneventful, plane trip over. Hacker donned his black sunglasses and walked along side Biscuit into Bismouth Industries. The first thing Hacker noticed was that everything was shiny and bright. Lucky he was wearing his sunglasses. Biscuit's mouth hung open and Hacker tapped him on his shoulder. Biscuit closed his mouth quickly. They walked up to the front desk and were met by a short blonde girl who was wearing navy coloured suit and thin black framed glasses.

"What is your buisness here?" She asked in what seemed to be a European accent.
"We are here from Jack's Hacks. We are here to look at your computer system." Hacker explained.
The blonde girl struggled with a drawer which eventually opened. She pulled out a large book from it. She dropped it on the desk in front of Hacker and flicked through the pages professionally. She stopped on one page somewhere close to the middle and ran her finger down the left side. She stopped at an entry somewhere in the middle that read JH 9:30. She looked at the clock above the drawers and it was past then.
"You're late." She said.
"It's worth the wait." Hacker replied.
"Come in. You are expected."
"Thank you".

The girl opened up a part of the desk which flipped up and rested against the wall. She motioned for them to come through and they did. They took a left turn at the drawers and then travelled for what seemed like a good few minutes to find where they were going. The blonde girl stopped at some double doors.
"I hope this suits you." She said.
She put a key into the door and turned it twice and then opened the doors. The walls were black with what appeared to be one way mirrors in it.
"This is where you will be spending your time with us. I hope you like it." She said.
She moved quickly out of the room and flicked a light switch on her way past the doors. Two bright, fluro lights illuminated the room. Hacker silently thanked himself for wearing his glasses again. In the middle of the room there was a large metal table. On either end of the table sat two computers. Hacker took up the one on the right and Biscuit took up the one on the left.
"What are we supposed to do?" Biscuit asked.
"What comes naturally." Hacker replied.
They booted up the two computers at the same time and adjusted their areas to suit each other.
"Let's see how good their system is." Hacker said.
He opened the command prompt window and begun entering a few commands and then stopped.
"I'll race you." He said with a slight smirk on his face.
"You're on." Biscuit replied.
They begun typing frantically on their keyboards and clicking their mouses. Each kept encountering access denied errors. Hacker had an idea of what it could be and he tried it. He typed in a long string and his screen flashed green with a listing of the company's computers.
"I'm in!" He said. It was only then did he realise that there was no noise from Biscuit's end.
"Biscuit?" Hacker questioned thin air. He walked around to the other end of the table and discovered Biscuit's window still open, with a command half typed. Buscuit was gone.

Hacker walked back to his computer and looked at the screen. It read "Biscuit is fine. Don't screw up." and then flashed back to the command window. He tried entering the same command again and it came up with an access denied screen. Then he heard someone stick a key into the door and turn it twice.
"Biscuit?" Hacker questioned the silence again.
The door opened. Behind the door was black suit.
"We already told you. Biscuit is fine." Black suit said.
"Who are you?" Hacker asked.
"You don't need to know. Come with me. If you resist I will have to use force. You do not want me to do that."
"Where is biscuit?!"
"Remain calm."
"Where is he, damn it?!"
"This is your last warning. Remain calm or I will use force."
"I'm not coming with you until you tell me where he is!"
"I have warned you three times. You have left me no other choice other than to use this." Black suit pulled out a taser and fired it at Hacker.

III - The Room
Hacker woke up sitting in a chair. He had a sense of deja vu. This was the room from his dream. Black suit was there. So was the anonymous other person. They were just out of the glow of the light so

Hacker couldn't make out their face. This time it was different. Hacker wasn't bleeding yet.

"Welcome back to conciousness, Hacker." Black suit said.
"Where am I?"
"You will know on a need to know basis and right now you don't need to know."
"What do you want?"
"The code."
"What code?"
"After you hacked the Bismouth's mainframe. You were shown a code. You should remember it."
"I wasn't shown any code. All it was was a green screen."
Black suit hit Hacker across the face. "What was the code?"
"I wasn't shown any code."
"Yes you were!" Another hit across the face. "Mr. Logi, tell me what the code is. I know you know."
"Mr. Logi? Is that my name?" Hacker said.
"Do not play dumb with me Logi! You and I worked together on this for many years. You should know it. You're the one who shut the project down!"
"Project? What?"
Black suit sighed. "You do not remember the project?"
"I don't remember anything up until a few years ago."
"Do not lie to me Logi! And to beleive I once trusted you!" Black suit yelled. Hitting Hacker across the face twice.
"I don't know who you are. Let me go!"
"Not until you answer my questions. Losnic!" The figure in the corner looked up. "Come here. Inject Mr. Logi here with some truth serum."
"Right away, sir." Losnic said.
Losnic opened a small metal suitcase that was on the floor hidden behind him and pulled out a syringe filled with a green liquid. He jabbed it into Hacker's arm and injected the syringe's contents into it.
"You will fell queasy and maybe sleepy. You have been injected with truth serum. It will take effect shortly."
"Logi, you will answer my questions truthfully."
"I will answer your questions truthfully." Hacker replied monotonously.

Losnic nodded and moved back into the shadows. He was the only spectator in the room. The room had no windows and only one door which Hacker presumed to be locked. Hacker was tied into a steel chair so he had no chance of escaping.

"Do you remember the project?" Black suit asked.
"No." Hacker replied.
"Do you remember me?"
"I know your face... from the dream I had."
"Dream? When?"
"Two nights ago. In the end, you shot me." The truth serum was working well.
"Hmm. You could be a... problem to the company. That is, unless you know the code."
"I do not know the code." Hacker replied. Feeling drowsy.
"You do know it. It's in there." He said pointing to Hacker's head. "Without it you wouldn't of been able to shut down the project!" Black suit screamed out the last few words and hit Hacker across the face again. Black suit pulled out his gun and aimed it at Hacker's temple again. Losnic shuffled in the corner and something shiny caught Hacker's eye. He couldn't get a glimpse of it. Black suit jerked his head to face his own.
"You used the code! 6 years ago! You destroyed the project! It is only now that we have gotten to where we were. What is the code?" Black suit yelled. Banging his free hand on the table whilst still holding the gun to Hacker's temple.
"I don't..." Hacker begun a sentence but was stopped by a loud bang.

The shot wasn't from black suit's gun. It was from Losnic's. The shiny thing that caught Hacker's eye was the holster of Losnic's desert eagle.
"If you said 'know' he would of shot you."
"How did you know that? Is he dead?"
"You don't need to know and no he is not."
"What? You shot him in the head."
"It will take a lot more than that to stop him. We must go now."

Losnic pulled out a black piece of plastic with a button on it. He pointed it at the door and pressed the button and something clicked. The door swung open. Losnic showed Hacker through. They ended up

in a large hall way with a total of seven black doors. Hacker guessed these were interrogation rooms. Losnic closed the door and pressed the button again and there came another click from the door. At

the opposite end of the hallway there was another black door which had a handle on it. Losnic and Hacker walked through the door back into the hallway that had the door leading into the hacking room.

They begun to walk past it but Hacker stopped and asked, "What about biscuit?"
"Who? Oh, him. Your friend." Losnic replied.
Losnic pulled out a key and stuck it into the hacking room door's lock and turned it the opposite direction to which the blonde girl did. Losnic opened the door and the room was exactly as it was before. In

the chair on the right, sat Biscuit still typing away. In the other chair sat black suit, also typing furiously.
"How'd you get over there?" Biscuit asked. "I thought you were over..." and he pointed to where black suit was. "Who are you?"
Black suit stopped typing and replied "You do not need to know that." Black suit pulled out his gun and pointed it at Biscuit.
"Hey watch where you're pointing that thing!" Biscuit said. Black suit pulled the trigger and shot Biscuit through the heart. A shell casing rang as it hit the foor. Losnic shuffled.
"I wouldn't try it again. You can't." Black suit said. Losnic reached for his gun but it wasn't there. "Now time to finish this." Black suit pointed the gun at Hacker and squeezed the trigger. His gun jammed.
"You're not the only one." Losnic said, backing out of the room and grabbing Hacker on the way through. He quickly shut the door and a bullet came through the door narrowly missing Losnic. He fumbled

with the key and stuck it in the door and turned it twice clockwise.
"Hurry, this way." He said to Hacker.
They went past the secretary who was busy typing away on her own keyboard. They went out the double doors and into the parking lot. Losnic looked around and then he pointed to a black car not too

far away. They reached the car and Losnic used the central locking button on his keyring to unlock the car. Hacker and Losnic got in the car with Losnic driving. Losnic shoved the key into the ignition and

turned it. Black suit burst through the double doors. Losnic pulled the car into reverse and spun the wheels going backwards. Then he put it into drive and sped off away from black suit. Black suit tried to

fire another few shots but it seemed that his gun was jammed still.
"What was all that about?" Hacker asked.
"You don't remember the project you were working on at all? They said it was at the fore-front of technology!" Losnic said.
"What was it?"
"Do you beleive in the mutli-verse theory?"
"Kind of."
"I'll explain it to you. There's an infinite number of universes for each action you do. For example, you could choose to breathe in, or out, make it long or make it short. There's four universes right there.

Your computer discovered the lines connecting these universes and it can meld them together. Not only that, but a chip was inserted into your brain that uses neurotechnology to 'communicate' with this

machine. The chip had transmitted a map of your brain to the home machine. If you were to go there you could probably get the machine to give you back your memories. The only problem is, if you try

and do something that will dramatically change the world the computer asks for a password. Unless you can remember this password, it's useless. All you can change is small things. I also was part of the

project, I was an aide to Mr. Ava. He was the guy that shot your friend. "
"Were you inserted with the same chip as me?"
"No, I was inserted with one less powerful so I can only change smaller things."
"Like the gun jamming?"
"No, that was sheer luck."
They moved onto the highway into town.
"I... don't know how to control this technology. I don't even know how to use it. I can't remember anything!"
"That was one of the side effects of the chips. When you shut down the project, the machine controlling it temporarily shut down. Before it did that it sent out a short electronic message to each chip.

Yours must of been some how scrambled and the chip was corrupted for a short moment in time. The chip sent out an electronic pulse to your body but it was too strong and wiped your memory cells. The

pulse was strong enough to knock you out. Ava shot you, once, through the chest and left you for dead. I also thought you were dead."
"Why did I shut down the project?"
"You beleived that Ava was going to use it to his own advantage. That's all I know, you wouldn't tell me how."
A car was tailgating.
"That's him." Losnic said as the car hit him.
"I can't change anything. The machine is still powered up, it's running on the secondary power supply as it has been for the past 6 years. It will send out a neurological signal to him telling him what I'm

going to change. Like I said, I couldn't even jam his gun. If you remembered how to use yours you could probably stop his car." Losnic said.
"I can't change it because I don't know how."
"Well, we will just have to outrun him. I'll drive you to the project." Losnic said whilst speeding up.
Losnic switched lanes and looked at the rear view mirror. The car hit something and it rolled underneath two wheels.
"What was that?" Losnic asked, turning around.
"Don't know." Hacker replied.
Up ahead there was a truck with two metal pieces sticking out from it, it looked like it was used to carry heavy machinery.
Losnic swore, looked at his rear view mirror and sped up.
"What are you doing?! Are you crazy?!" Hacker yelled.
"Maybe." Losnic replied.
Ava was nearly bumper to bumper with them until he saw what was up ahead and stopped his car.
Losnic's car hit the right ramp with the left tyres and flipped in the air.

Riiiight here:

Hacker - Part 5
"You're controlling the machine." Losnic said with the car still in mid-flight. The car seemed to begin to rotate faster. The car did a full 360 degree rotation in the air and landed with a hard jolt. The tyres skidded on the ground as Losnic put his foot down. Ava's car was a good few meters back. Ava's car's tyres started smoking as he put his foot down to catch up.
"My chip told me you were controlling the machine. How did you do it?" Losnic asked Hacker.
"I don't know, it was instinctual." Hacker replied.
"You must know!"
"I don't. I only thought that my life was in danger and then it happened."
Losnic hmmed and took a left turn at the exit to the highway.
"We are a few minutes away now. Not long. I'll try to keep Ava off our tail."
Ava skidded around the corner just behind them. His car seemed to have more power than their's did. Losnic was weaving in and out of traffic, even across lanes. They were currently on a 6 laned road with no strip in the middle and Losnic frequently crossed into oncoming traffic. He narrowly missed being cut in half by two trucks heading in opposite directions. Losnic swerved onto the furthest side of the oncoming traffic and turned sharply back to the left lane. Then, when he got on the right side of the road, he twisted the wheel to the right so the car was heading in the right direction. The results of those actions were a 16-car pile-up and a new purseur, the police. Losnic looked back over his shoulder and there were three cop cars taking up all three lanes, also weaving in and out of traffic. Very close behind them was Ava.
"A few more minutes." Losnic said through gritted teeth.
The bridge up ahead was made of steel and concrete. It was a great monster of a thing with a huge metal and concrete divider running the length and down the middle of the bridge. Losnic faked switching over to the oncoming traffic and then went back to the left lane. One of the cop cars fell for it and crashed into the divider.
"One down. Two to go." He said like it was a game.
The other two came in closer with a passenger hanging out the side of one pointing what seemed to be a shotgun towards them. He fired it and it went through the back window of Losnic's car.
"I just got that repaired!" Losnic yelled.
The passenger ducked his head back in and reloaded the shotgun. By this time it was the end of the bridge. There was a hill after the bridge and the road turned to went around it. Losnic pressed a button on the car and braked heavily. Smoke poured from the tires on the car. He spun the car around 180 degrees and shoved it into reverse. The cop cars were catching up.
"Watch this." Losnic said to Hacker who had currently dug his fingers through the seat he was sitting on. Losnic again braked heavily and the two cop cars went speeding past. Then he spun the car around the right way and put it into drive. He spun his wheels and took off right past the two cop cars who had tried to drive through the hill. Ava wasn't stupid enough to suffer the same fate as the three police cars. He kept on their tail. Nothing Losnic tried to do could remove him from that position. Losnic turned sharply onto a dirt road. Even through the dust cloud he left behind Ava still followed closely. Losnic stopped on the side of the road and ran to a post. He flipped out the reflector on the post and typed in a multi-digit password. The side of the road beside the post collapsed and a set of stairs appeared. They rushed down the stairs and at the bottom Losnic typed in the same password and a solid hatch jammed across the opening. There was just enough light to catch Ava's fingers being jammed in the hatch with a loud crunch.

It was pitch black. Losnic felt around for the light switch and eventually found it. They were in a long metal hallway which had the stairs at one end and a door at the other. They went through this door and Losnic typed another code into the keypad next to the door which sealed it shut. They walked hurridely down another hallway and stopped at a door. Losnic pulled out a set of keys and shuffled through them and found the one he needed. He stuck it in the door and opened it. The room was lighted by several lights on the very high roof and the floor seemed to be illuminated by lights under translucent tiles. In the middle of the room sat a metal table with a small laptop. Hacker somehow knew what to do and sat down and begun typing in a set of commands. A screen popped up and prompted him for a username and password which was the same as the one he currently used. "Welcome Mr. Loki." said a computer generated voice out of nowhere. The wall behind the monitor opened up and the display on the laptop disappeared and what was once the wall was now a screen. Another prompt came up. "Would you like to restore your memory?". This one had just two buttons on it, a green and a red one. Hacker hesitated over the green one and then pressed the red one. Losnic raised an eyebrow.
"Why did you do that?" Losnic asked.
"It's the right button, beleive me." Hacker responded.

A small panel in the wall to the left opened up and there were two syringes of clear liquid. Hacker took one of these out, tapped it, and jabbed it into his arm. There was a silence for a little while and then Hacker started to speak.
"It's not wor..." He started to convulse on the floor.

That's very cool radar...but where's the next part /blum.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' />
Love is all a matter of timing.

It's no good meeting the right person too soon or too late.

If I'd live in another time or place...

...my story might have had a very different ending.

Hacker - Part Six

Hacker was convulsing on the floor. He had injected himself with a syringe. Losnic watched on, horrifed. After a few minutes he suddenly stopped.

Hacker opened his eyes and looked around.
"I remember everything now." He croaked.
"How did that work?" Losnic asked.
"Inside the syringe there were billions of nanobots. Those bots each contained a set of memories from my past. They sent messages through my body and into my brain."

The door burst open and in came Ava. He held up the hand that was crushed and stretched it and then made it into a fist.
"You thought you could outsmart, outdo and outrun me. You thought wrong." Ava said, reaching for his gun and not finding it there.
"So did you." Hacker replied, spinning Ava's gun on his index finger like a cowboy. "You screwed up."
Losnic reached for his gun slowly only to find it wasn't there either. Ava now had it in his hands.
"You're not the only one, remember?" He said, pointing to his head where the chip was. "I still find it hard to believe that we were once friends." Ava said, spitting the word out like expired milk.
"We were. Right up until the point where you went postal. You are a little too trigger happy, aren't you Ava?" Hacker asked.
"How did you..." Ava asked, looking over to the wall where the syringes were kept and finding one missing. "You /censored.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'(cens)\' />!" He squeezed the trigger on his gun and there was a quick blur. Ava now stood where Hacker was, and Hacker where Ava was. The bullet hit Ava in the arm.
Ava screamed and unloaded his magazine at Hacker but, like before, there were more blurs and Ava was now riddled with bullet holes. Ava slumped against the wall and slid down it, leaving a bloody trail on it.
"I guess that's done then." Losnic said, turning his back to Ava and facking Hacker.
"No, it's not." Ava said through a bloody mouth and he shot one more Bullet right through Losnic's chest. There was a familiar ring of shell casing on the floor, but then more. The bullets in Ava's body were now lying on the floor. He got up and straightened up his suit and tie and walked slowly towards Hacker, keeping the gun pointed squarely between Hacker's eyes.
"Drop your gun." Ava asked.
"You first." Hacker said.
"Drop your gun! Now! I will scatter your memories like I did before!" Ava replied agressively.
Hacker let it fall to the ground.
"Kick it over to where he is." Said Ava, nodding in Losnic's direction. Hacker did that. "Now prepare to die."
"You first." Hacker repeated. Ava disappeared and his gun also fell to the floor. Losnic groaned.
"What happened?" He asked.
"You know about the multiple dimensions? Let's just say there's a piece of Ava in all of them." Hacker said with a smile.

"What are we going to do now?" Losnic asked.
"Shut down this project, once and for all." Hacker said. He pointed his gun at the laptop and placed two bullets in it, then two at the screen. "Meet me at the car." He said.

Losnic waited in the car for a good 15 minutes before Hacker returned.
"What did you do?" Losnic asked.
"You'll know it when you hear it. Just drive, quickly." Hacker replied.

Losnic's car sped off and was just about to get off the dirt road when a huge explosion obliterated the area where the car was about a minute ago.

Losnic smiled. They drove back to Bismouth Industries.

Inside Hacker went straight to Biscuit and announced the good news.
"I got my memory back!" He said.
"Cool! Who are you really?" Biscuit asked.
"I am Michael Loki. I was employed orignally by Bismouth Industries in a top secret project. You don't need to know the details but it was used to wipe my memory."
"Wow, really high-tech stuff then. What happened?"
"The person I was working with was corrupted by greed. He wanted the project all to himself so he could use it to his own advantage. I found out about it and altered the project slightly so it wouldn't work. But..." Hacker said, sighing. "He thought I screwed up the project and he killed my wife."
"Where is this guy now?"
"Everywhere." Hacker said with a smile. Biscuit raised an eyebrow and they walked out of Bismouth Industries.

Due to popular demand/stew threats/etc. I have decided to release a preview of the story right now.

5 years for nothing. He wanted revenge more than anything. They had taken away everything of his. His house, his car, even his worn mouse mat that he had from his first job. All he was left with was his clothes. His name was Blast. Or at least that's what everyone else called him. He'd gotten so used to it that he didn't hear the lady at the counter calling his real name.

"Mr. Sund?" she said.
No response from him, he was daydreaming.
"Mr. Sund, there are other people in the line behind you." He received a push in the back from another convict.
"Oh? What?" He asked.
"Come up and grab your stuff." The lady said through gritted teeth.
Blast walked up to the counter and the lady pulled out a tray loaded with the clothes that he was wearing when he came in.
"One worn t-shirt, one equally worn pair of jeans, one shoe..." she checked the items off on a list.
"One shoe?!" He shouted. "When I came in here I had two!"
"Sorry Mr. Sund but it says right here.", she pointed to the list, "1 shoe. Now will you let me finish the list?"
"I didn't know I had anything else."
"Well, there's a few more items on the list." She said, pointing again to the scrawled piece of paper.
"Read them."
"One paperclip." She said and was immediately followed by a low whistle from him.
She cleared her throat and continued. "One credit card."
"Credit card? Does it say how much money is on it?"
"No Mr. Sund, we don't need to know that information."
"Oh..."
"That's all." she said, handing over the tray with the contents in it and the credit card on top. "You can use that booth over there to get changed."

He moved off and got changed into his old clothes. They were covered in dust but they were much better than the prison uniform he had to wear for the past 5 years. He walked out of the prison and onto the side of the road, minus one shoe. He pulled the credit card out from his pants and looked at it, it had his name on it and his signature was on the back. He began walking down the road when a dark car pulled up next to him. The window wound down and a voice told him to get inside.

Once inside he looked across the car at the person sitting on the other side. They had combed back hair, dark sunglasses, a long sleeved shirt and black pants on. Blast begun to speak and the guy on the other side of the car put his hand up and silenced him.
"I have a few questions I wish to ask before you start asking your own." The figure said. "Enjoy your time in the joint?" He said with a slight smile.
"It was a ball." Blast replied sarcastically.
"Now now, no need for sarcasm. Your first question is going to be who am I. You don't need to know right now, so don't bother asking it. Your second question is going to be where are we going. Again, you do not need to know. Your third and possibly final question is going to be why. Why did we pick you up?"
"Oh great. A guy who thinks he's psychic."
"No, not quite. The reason why we picked you up is because of why you were in the joint in the first place."
"We? Who is this we?"
"I told you that you do not need to know, Mr. Sund. Don't get angry."
Mr. Sund was known for his short temper.
"The reason why I was put in that hellhole? I was put in there for a crime I did not commit!" Mr. Sund yelled.
"I told you not to get angry. Please stay calm. We are not going to hurt you. Now, what crime were you in there for?"
"Supposedly I hacked a government website."
"Really? Is that all?"
"Yup."
"Did you do it?"
"Nope."
"Then who did?"
"Do you think if I knew that I would be here right now?"
"I told you Mr. Sund. Remain calm or we might have to make you calm."
"Let me out of the car now."
"We can't do that Mr. Sund."
The figure felt along the armrest until his fingers reached a button and then pressed it. Blast felt a stab of pain in his back.
"Don't worry Mr. Sund. It's only a sedative. It won't kill..." The figure's voice trailed away and Mr. Sund fell into a deep sleep in the seat.

Maths = sucks.
The teacher for Voc Studies... well you can put your hand up and leave it there for 30 minutes but she still won't come around and check your draft of your work which you've had since Monday.

Without further ranting, here's the second part:
When Blast woke up he could just see through the tinted windows. They were in the city somewhere and the sun was just peeking over the horizon. He was disorientated and still drowsy from the effect of the drug. He looked across to see that the figure wasn't there any more.

"Don't worry, Mr. Sund. I moved." The figure said from the front passenger seat.
"Where are we?" Blast asked.
"You still do not need to know."
"Where are we going?"
"Home."

They drove along a busy main road of the city and turned off it after about 30 minutes into a small one laned road. They stopped about halfway along it and got out of the car. By this time it was nearly impossible to see anything.

"You can get out now." the figure said.

Blast got out of the car and followed the figure to a door. The figure reached into his pocket and pulled out a set of keys, flicked through them and stuck one of them into the door. They climbed a long set of stairs and then went down a hallway. They stopped at the 5th door down on the left.

"Welcome home." the figure said with a smile.
"Home? This isn't where I live."
"It is now. It has everything you need and we pay your bills for you for as long as you do what we ask."
"And what is that you ask?"
"You will find out. Here's your keys." the figure said, taking off the two keys used to get into the apartment and giving them to Blast. "There's a computer in that room over there." the figure motioned to a room to the right.
"Thanks."
"Oh, and by the way my name is Losnic."

Days passed with no word from Losnic. A week passed, then three. Whilst using the computer, Blast received an email. It read: "After reading this email, your phone will ring."

The phone rang. Slightly freaked out at it, Blast stared at the phone for about 5 seconds and then scrambled over and picked it up.
"Hello Mr. Sund. There will be a knock on your door." And then the second the phone went dead there was a knock at the door.
Blast rushed over to the door and opened it. Noone was there. He closed the door and his foot slipped on a piece of paper. He gained his balance before he fell over and picked up the piece of paper. The paper read:

"Hello Mr. Sund,
You may not know who I am but I know who you are. Before you were put in jail I was following your progress. I was amazed at how efficiently you had hacked those sites. I was amazed at you leaving no trace of yourself. I watched you right up until the very second where they bust into your house and unplugged your computer.

Now, you are thinking that I'm the one who put you there in the first place. No, Mr. Sund. It wasn't me. I simply watch. Now, I need you to do something for me. There was a site which you were 'borrowing' shortly before you were put into the slammer. You did not succeed in this task and we would like you to succeed in this task. We would like possession of all the information contained on this website by Friday 12pm. If you don't know, today is Monday. The site we want belongs to Bismouth Industries.
L."

Blast read through the letter several more times. He understood what he was supposed to do but he didn't want to be put back in jail. He looked on the back and was shocked to find:
"Don't worry, you're protected by us. They can't put you in jail."

Blast read through the letter once more and then the words on the back. They had predicted everything, or so it seemed. Over the next 5 days he was on his computer for 20 hours and slept for four each day. During the 20 hours of which he was awake he concentrated on grabbing every little bit of information from that site and storing it on a removable drive. It wasn't until Thursday when he reached the mv directory. He tried accessing it from the site and he got an access denied error. He tried accessing it with the FTP he created for himself before to read the contents of the site but he still couldn't get in. Frustrated he tried guessing the passwords until he thought of "bismouth" as a password. He typed it in and he gained access to the folder. He was surprised by what he found.

Blast found a huge array of files. He clicked on one called "description". He skimmed through it and it was basically about some kind of chip, what it did, how it did it and who controlled it. It also detailed the chip's limitations. Further down the multiple pages of directory listings he found circuit diagrams for the chips. He went through the entire directory contents for an hour and then he finally went to download them. He opened up the FTP client and gained access to the folder only to find that the folder now contained only one file. He checked and triple-checked the links and they checked out. Then he refreshed the directory listing for the mv directory in his browser to find that same file there. The file was just called "blank". Blast downloaded it and opened it. It read:
"Congratulations,
If you are reading this it means that you are the second person to access this directory. Unfortunately you are too late and all the files contained within this directory have been moved to a safe, undisclosed location. If you wish to contact me then please do so after I finish bringing you down.
H."
Blast rubbed his eyes. It was now four in the morning and his body was more than simply sleep deprived. Finding that his coffee supply was no non-existant, he went to bed.

When he woke up again the first thing he thought of was that short file. He looked on his computer to find that he had left it open. He read through it again to make sure he could remember it properly. There was a knock at the door.
"Who is it?" Blast shouted.
"It's me." said a voice muffled by the thick door.
Blast frowned and struggled to remember the face of the voice. It wasn't until he opened the door when he remembered that the voice belonged to Losnic. Losnic was holding a coffee cup in one hand and a jar of coffee beans in another.
"Coffee?" He asked. Blast grabbed it quickly out of his hands and drank it slowly, savouring the taste.
"How'd it go?" Losnic asked.
"Good. Right up until the point where I got that file." Blast said, pointing over to the screen.
"Oh, that. Don't worry about that. My friend says thanks." Losnic said.
"Who's your friend?"
"Don't you know? He's Hacker." That's when it finally clicked in his head. The person who wrote the file called blank was Losnic's friend. The files were safe then.
"Come with me." Losnic said.

Blast was all too happy to leave the small apartment. When he stepped outside Blast winced at the sunlight. He hadn't seen it for days.
"Put these on" Losnic said handing him a pair of sunglasses.

They got into Losnic's car and they drove to a warehouse. They went inside and walked around for a little while until it all suddenly went quiet. They didn't notice anything amiss until all the lights went out.

"That isn't good." Losnic said with a slight tremor in his voice. The doors over the entrance wouldn't open when they approached them. They tried smashing them with items but it didn't even leave a crack.

"Going somewhere?" said a deep voice that echoed off the walls of the empty warehouse. Losnic and Blast looked around to find no one there.

"Don't bother. Don't you remember? I'm everywhere?" The voice mocked, followed by a laugh.
"It can't be." Losnic muttered.
"Oh, don't worry, betrayer. It is."
Blast moved backwards, pressing his back up against the door.
"Found another person to betray have we?" The voice continued.
"You should be dead." Losnic yelled out to nothing.
"Ahh, but it is quite obvious that I am not. Or is it? Maybe you need some physical evidence of my continued existance." The voice said. Now it was coming from directly in front of them. There was still no visible sign of anyone there. Suddenly footsteps came along the aisle paralell to the doors. They stopped, just out of the light cast by the sun.
"So, betrayer. You wanted to see me? Well fine." The voice spoke. Followed quickly by two more steps. A man stepped out of the shadows. A man in a black suit.

The figure was standing in front of them. The right side of his face was severely burnt. He was lit from the front by the sunlight coming in through the double doors behind Blast and Losnic.
"H, get him out of here." Losnic said.

Blast blinked and he was suddenly in what appeared to be a very dark room. He was now lying down. He tried to get up but he was paralyzed. He struggled for a while but eventually gave up.

Back in the warehouse the figure and Losnic stood a few steps apart.
"So soon?" Losnic said mockingly.
"Surprised to see me?" the figure answered with a question.
"As always." Losnic replied, pulling out his 9mm and firing a few rounds into the figure.
"I suppose I should reiterate. I'm everywhere." The figure said after the bullets passed straight through him.
"Hacker tore you to pieces."
"Maybe he did. But that was then," he drew the word out. "this is now!" he said drawing a gun. He shot at Losnic but he had already moved behind scaffolding.
"I'm everywhere." The figure repeated again. "Don't move." The figure said, now behind Losnic and holding a gun to Losnic's head.
"A bit trigger happy are we?" Another voice said.
"You again. Come back to pathetically attempt to destroy me again?" the figure said
"No, Ava. I have come to put an end to your reign and I will do so without destroying you. I realised the error that I made before and I have come back to rectify it."
"But you see, this gun" he tapped the gun with another, "is pointed quite nicely at the temple of your friend here." said Ava.
"What gun?" the other voice said.
"Thi.. Damn you!" Ava shouted out to nothing.
"Now what are you going to do without your gun?"
"This!" Ava said whilst beginning to run away from Losnic. He disappeared into a dark section of the warehouse.
"The hunter has lost his courage?" the other voice questioned.
"Not quite." said Ava, who was now lit by the light produced by a molotov cocktail he had in one hand. He threw it towards Losnic and Losnic dived out of the way just in time for it to explode where he just was.
"Want some more? Well here you go!" Ava said whilst throwing more molotovs at Losnic.
"How do you beat a guy who is everywhere?" asked Losnic as he was running to avoid another cocktail.
"By bringing him into one place." the other voice said.
"Not if you can't find me!" Ava said and he disappeared.
"H, where is he?" Losnic asked.
"He's gone into..." H swore. "He's after Blast!"
"Bring Blast back and lets get out! Did you get what you wanted from here?"
"Yes, I got the drive, Blast will be appearing next to you shortly."
Blast appeared after a few seconds.
"Where was I?" asked Blast.
"You were in the space between the mutliple universes."
"The what?"
"If you don't know about them then it really doesn't matter. I'll explain to you later, after we get out of..."
"Not so fast!" Ava shouted. "All around you are trip mines. Attempt to escape and you will undoubtedly trip one. Also at the other end of the warehouse you will find a large proportion of C4. If you move this will also be detonated by myself. To your left and your right, are two equally sized bombs. Each of these has a timer of 45 seconds. Fail to disarm these will also result in your instantaneous deaths."
"Joy." muttered Losnic.
"What do you want?" screamed Blast.
"I want what they took from me. All those years of hard work and then, once I was nearly there again, HE!" Ava said pointing at the now visible Hacker, "spread me out throughout the multi-verse. He forgot to destroy this though!" he pointed at his head. "The chip still communicated with the second Sentinel and sensed I was in danger and brought me back to safety. But all too soon! He triggered the explosion and did this to me!" He quickly pointed an equally burnt finger to the side of his face. "I lay there for hours. Then days. Finally, someone found me."
"Who?" asked Losnic and Blast in synchronicity.
"It's quite unfortunate that we haven't had the chance to meet." said a voice exactly like Ava's. "It's equally unfortunate that we will not have the chance to meet. You hurt my brother and now you will pay for it!"
A beep echoed throughout the warehouse.
"It's time to go, brother." Ava said.
"Indeed it is." said the twin and they both disappeared.
Another beep sounded. They didn't know how long they had to go.
"Oh, and if you think of using that ability of ours," came Ava's voice out of nowhere, "I'll bring you right back here." Ava laughed and his voice faded away.
A light flickered on above them and from the ceiling hung a large screen. On the screen was the numbers 00:31:40. The second column was the seconds column. When it reached 30 it beeped again.
"Now what?" asked Losnic.
"We wait." said Hacker.

Spent 3 hours on public transport today so that = more to the story. But I handwrote it all so excuse the rough translation from scrawl-on-train into Australian (for those of you that can't read Australian... well too bad. /biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />) Oh, this is a bit longer than the other chapters because I had more to write + Ada threatened me with the waterbroom.

Hacker 2 - Part Five

They were stuck. Ava had placed bombs at several locations in the warehouse. Ava had also placed a large group of trip mines who's beams formed a cage of red light around the trio. Ava and his twin had disappeared visibly but were there still there, watching them. The bombs beeped again, signalling the passing of another 5 seconds.

"Losnic, try to leave." Hacker said.
Losnic closed his eyes and he flickered.
"Can't do it." Losnic sighed.
"Don't worry, we still need to wait a little while longer."

Another beep from the bombs. The screen showed less than 20 seconds to go.
"Do it again, Losnic." Hacker said.
"I don't see any..." Losnic was cut off by Hacker.
"Just do it. Two more times and that's it."
Losnic flickered twice more. The bombs beeps again, signifying 15 seconds remaining.
"Ok. Thanks Losnic. That should do it." Hacker said with a slight grin on his face.
They waited.

The last beep signalled that there were only 5 seconds. Hacker stood there still with a smile on his face. Losnic was trying to ask Hacker questions but each time Hacker just raised his hand. Finally the last beep came. It grew in pitch for about a second. Losnic and Blast screwed up their eyes and Hacker stood there, smiling. The beep stopped.
"Boom!" shouted Hacker. He made Blast and Losnic jump and he laughed at the sight. Losnic smiled and Blast growled.
"Bye Bye." Hacker said to the empty warehouse.
Ava became visible and let out a long wail.
"Noooo! How could I fail this time? Where did they go?!"
"I... don't know." said the twin.
"You were supposed to be watching them! Stupid fool!"
"I do know that they are somewhere in that direction." the Twin said, pointing out to the west.
"Argh! How can you be so stupid?"
"I'm you, remember?"
"I created you! I can destroy you just as easily!" said the original Ava, storming off right into a trip mine.
"Now who's the stupid one?" said the clone, grabbing Ava on his way and disappearing from the warehouse.

Back in Blast's apartment, Losnic, Hacker and Blast materialised into the room.
"Impossible!" Blast yelled. "How did you do that? We should all be dead!"
"No, nothing is impossible." Hacker said laughing and patting him on the back.
"But... but" Blast stuttered.
"Should happen right about... now."
A dull boom shook the building.
"What the hell was that?" Blast said, looking out of the window.
"Come on boy! We were only there a moment ago. Surely you can remember!" Hacker said.
"The warehouse?"
"Bingo!" Hacker said loudly.
"But we were there, we could not be here too!"
"And why not?"
"The laws of physics..."
"They are theories" Hacker interrupted. "Laws are proven things. So you beleive that we shouldn't be alive or here?"
"Yeah."
"Well we're both of those things so don't worry. At least we got away from them for now. I'll explain it to you because we have some time now." Hacker said, sitting down in a chair.
"You know about the universe?"
Blast nodded.
"For every choice you make there is at least one other universe."
"What?"
"Well let's say that you decide that you'll just walk out of the room. That's one universe right there. This one is the one where you don't."
"And how do you know that?"
"The Sentinel tells me this."
"What's the Sentinel?"
"Another machine, like the one Losnic and I destroyed along with Ava."
"What does it do?"
"It allows anyone with a special chip to 'hop' between the different universes. You can also time-travel, but there's a limitation of that. You have to have existed. So I couldn't go back to before I was born and I couldn't go forward after I died. Also we can 'hop' inside a single universe, allowing us to basically move ourselves from one place to another. We can also alter things. For example, how I altered the bombs back there."
"Why doesn't Ava go back and kill you?"
"I don't know the exact answer to that question myself. My guess is this. If he went back and killed me, then I wouldn't exist right now, would I? So therefore I wouldn't know I existed and he wouldn't have gone back and killed me. It's an infinite loop. Maybe he needs me."
"How did we get out of there? I thought he said he was going to keep us there."
"He can't. He's never been here. So if he can't see a place he can't go there or stop us from going there. Unfortunately he HAS been in that place I put you in, that's why he was able to come after you."
"Why me? Why not you or Losnic?"
"That is yet another of the many things I do not know. Again, he may need you for some purpose."
Losnic was swinging on his chair and swung too far backwards. Hacker shouted out "No!". Losnic disappeared and then reappeared quickly, standing next to the fallen chair.
"Damn it! Losnic's got a earlier version of the chip that only allows you to hop inside a universe. Each time anyone uses the chip it sends out a signal to the machine and then the machine sends out a signal to everyone who has a chip where they are, what they did and who they are. They can track us now. Losnic, move." Hacker said.

The two Ava's materialised into the room right where Losnic was standing.
"Such a pleasure to meet you again." said the clone.
"Hand it over!" one said.
"Now!" said the other.
"Sorry I don't know what you're talking about. But I do have this!" Hacker pulled out a gun and pointed it at Ava's head. Simultaneously the two Ava's pulled out their guns and aimed them at Hacker's and Losnic's heads and Losnic had drawn his and pointed it at the other Ava.
The original Ava sighed. "So predictable."
"Looks like we have a stand-off." Hacker said.
"We'll take either the disk or him." the original said, moving his head towards Blast.
"How about neither?" Hacker said, fading away to nothingness along with the clone. They reappeared a short time later with their positions swapped. The clone's back was now to Hacker and Hacker had now got the clone's gun and pointed it at the exposed back whilst still pointing his original weapon at the original Ava. He fired two shots and both the Ava's collapsed.
"That won't last long." Hacker said.
Losnic emptied his gun into both the bodies and Blast stood there looking at the horrific scene. The clone rolled over and threw something at Blast and Blast disappeared. The two Ava's also disappeared.
"Now what do we do?"
"I know where they are." Hacker said.

Sorry about the delay. Deluge of homework flooded my mind and was finally released last week... but then I had to work four days straight and that drained me. I've had too much time to think about this story but not enough time to write it so... here goes.

Hacker traced the Avas' trail to a place he had been before. It was a replica of the facility he had destroyed when he and Losnic thought they destroyed Ava.
"That's strange." Hacker said as they materialised on top of the staircase.
"What?" asked Losnic and Blast simultaneously.
"Nevermind, tell you later." answered Hacker.

Hacker led them from the stairs to the door at the end. Losnic punched in the code and the door slid open. The room was massive. At the doors there were another set of stairs with three breaks in them, leading a few stories down into the sub-terranean buliding. The staircase was supported by several thick marble columns and had brass handrails. The room was lit well enough to see the floor but they could just make out the roof because it was a few feet above them. At the bottom of the staircase they could make out two silhouettes which they presumed to be the Avas. In the middle of them there was another figure sitting down and hunched over.

They reached the bottom of the staircase to find that both Avas were waiting for them.
"Why here?" Hacker asked quickly.
"Why not? This place gives the quickest response time from the Sentinel." replied the Ava on the left.
"And where is it?" Losnic asked.
"Why would we tell you that? You seek to destroy it and all *we* worked for!" the right Ava replied accusingly.
"And? Wouldn't it do some good?" Losnic asked.
"To you maybe but it does not do us any good. If you wish to destroy it then you must destroy us first."
"What do you mean us?" Hacker cut in.
"What?" both the Avas asked.
"What do you mean us? You said 'you must destroy *us* first' Why do you refer to yourself as two people?" Hacker said with a glint in his eye.
"How..?" Ava stuttered.
"Ahh, the only time you forget to clean up your tracks and I find out two things that help us. The first was where you went, the second was that you only left one track, not two."
"But that means..." Losnic said.
Hacker pulled out his gun and time seemed to slow. Hacker wrapped his finger around the trigger and pulled it painfully slowly whilst one of the Avas begun to form what looked like a shout. A very low boom reverberated around them in the suspended state of time and Blast was sure he saw the air move around him. The bullet slid no faster than a snail out of the gun. When Blast looked up at the Avas they seemed to be blinking on and off. When the left one disappeared, the right one appeared and vice-versa. He finally understood. Time resumed it's usual pace and the bullet shot Ava right between the eyes. The bullet when straight through his head leaving a hole in the wall behind him. Blood flowed out of Avas head.
Then the applause started. It sounded like a single pair of hands clapping.
"Bravo, Bravo!" someone said. The applause echoed around the room and Hacker and Blast looked around for the source of it.
"Over here boys!" the voice said. Another Ava stepped out from behind another column.
Hacker raised an eyebrow and pointed the gun at the new Ava and the gun clicked.
"As you probably have noticed by now there were always two of us, not one as you claim so arrogantly. Yes, there were two of us at the warehouse. When 'we' came to your house it was actually that one. Shame about him. You've probably also noticed that your gun only had one bullet and in remembering so, you specifically recall a memory of you loading it up with a full magazine. Another false thought. As for our floor stainer of a friend over there well..." The dead Ava faded. "He won't bother us any longer." He said with a smile.
"And you escaped how?" Hacker asked.
"You of all people should know that very answer! You answered it yourself earlier!" He said and with another raised eyebrow from Hacker continued, "Well it would seem you have some very short short-term memory then. You said to me, well, the one that you shot, that 'you only left one track'." he said mockingly, continuing his story, "And now you finally come to the answer."
"Is it because Blast doesn't have a chip?"
"Ha! No. Anyone doing any travelling will leave a trace. Keep thinking."
"It was that device that clone of yours threw at Blast!"
"Bingo!" said the Ava, applauding again and stopping abruptly. Blast had disappeared. "Now where's he got to?"
"Hmm?" Hacker said, turning around to see where Blast was and finding that he had disappeared also. "Oh, him. Sorry I was too busy listening to your gloating." Hacker mocked back.
"So how many more of you are there, Ava?" Losnic asked.
"Just me, the original and the best. I know you don't beleive me but it's true." Ava replied.
"How'd you get the clone?" Losnic questioned.
"Him? Clone? Ha! He was my brother. He was always weaker, always following orders and me."
Another gun clicked.
"So that's where you got to" Ava said, spinning around on one foot to face Blast. "Welcome back, care to join us?"
"Losnic, now." Hacker said through gritted teeth.
Losnic pulled out two 9 millimeters and unloaded them at Ava. All the bullets seemed to streak past him.
"Worse shot than he is!" Ava said motioning to Hacker.
Ava now stood in between Hacker, Losnic and Blast with them forming the points of a triangle around him. Hacker winked.
"What?" Ava said, having only time to speak the first word of his sentence before being cut off by a gunshot to the back. Blast had shot Ava in the back. More lights in the dimly lit room came on and lit up the entirety of it. In the middle of the room, the furthest away from the stairs, sat a large sphere. In front of it there was a computer terminal. The trio walked to the terminal and it read.
"Sentinel: Looking After Our Future.
Please login:
User:_
"

The cursor was flashing, Hacker typed in his alias "Hacker" and typed in a password he used more than others. It let him in. The computer spoke in a soft female voice. "Welcome to the Sentinel. Please select an option." A graphical user interface appeared on the screen with three options. They were: "Diagnosis, Users and Shutdown." Hacker went straight for the Shutdown button and when he pressed it the computer spoke again.
"Please ensure that all users are disconnected from the network before trying to shut it down. If you do not do this the users' chips will self-destruct."
Another box came up with the spoken message now in writing and below it "Are you sure?" appeared along with two buttons, yes and no. Hacker clicked 'no' and navigated back to the main screen. He clicked the "Diagnosis" option this time.
"There are currently <pause> four <pause> users connected to the Sentinel Network." The computer spoke and then showed a map of the world with four dots appearing one after another in close proximity. Hacker clicked the zoom button which had appeared along with the map until he could identify the location of the dots. Three dots were close together and one was a few kilometers away from them, and closing quickly. The Sentinel was shown by a large blue dot.
Hacker clicked a ID tab next to each of the dots. The first dot he clicked showed a blank photo with a question mark on it. The name field had a question mark in it too. He frowned and clicked the next one, smiling as a photo of his younger self was shown with his name appearing underneath the name field. He clicked on the third one and smiled wider finding that the next dot was Losnic's representation on the map. He closed the window and clicked the fourth dot.

A photo of Blast came up. Hacker stood there with his mouth agape.
"You had been hiding it all along!"
"Only from you." Blast faded to nothing.
Hacker tried tracking him but found nothing, not even the Sentinel showed him on its map. He clicked the first dot out of curiosity and it now displayed a picture. Hacker stared blankly at the screen.

Hacker 2 - Chapter Seven

The dot was closing in from behind them. Once it reached the stairs of the enormous underground base Hacker and Losnic tried turning around but they couldn’t. They just kept hoping that the dot was friendly. The footsteps grew louder right when the figure was behind them. Hacker could hear the air flowing in and out of their nostrils.
“Hacker. Losnic. Turn around now.” The figure said.
They turned around to find the figure was Hacker’s old friend, Biscuit.
“Hey! How’d you get here?” Hacker asked.
“Tracked you using this.” Biscuit said, putting a chubby finger to his temple.
“What? You never had one.”
“Remember that time I disappeared? Back in Bismouth Industries HQ?”
Hacker nodded.
“Well, they inserted a new brand of chip they were working on, a prototype.”
“Why did they do this?”
“They said that I was the perfect candidate.”
“For what?”
“They didn’t specify exactly what, but ever since this chip was ‘installed’ in me I’ve avoided a lot of life-threatening situations.”
“Like what?”
“Well, there was this one time when an 18-wheeler’s brakes failed when it was coming up to some traffic lights, right behind me.”
Hacker grimaced.
“Yeah, not pretty. Luckily the chip did something and time seemed to slow down but everything I did was still in normal time… and this was like weird for me but I was afraid that I was going to lose my life. The chip brought me back to Bismouth Industries.”
“What did they do to you?”
“They trained me how to effectively use the chip, now I can control nearly everything. Although there are *some* limitations.”
“Like what?” Losnic asked
“Sometimes I try and do some things and the chip sends out an electrical pulse to my brain which really hurts.”
“Like what?” Losnic repeated his question.
“Well that’s really a long story…”
“Tell us.” Hacker said “We’ve got plenty of time.”
“I’m afraid you don’t, but I’ll tell you after the short version of my story. I’ve been monitoring Blast ever since he got out of jail. Bismouth was the people he was hacking, he says he didn’t do it, the court says he did. He’s been playing you all along.”
“Yeah, we kinda figured that.” Hacker replied.
“Anyway, when you were in that warehouse with the Avas, Ava sorry, you couldn’t escape. That’s another talent Bismouth trained me in, I can pull people out of anything and not leave a trace.”
“But I thought Ava worked for Bismouth.” Losnic said.
“That’s what they thought too. But then they started finding some of their employees go missing, not just any employees either. They were the test subjects for the chip they were installing.”
“Your chip.” Hacker trailed off.
“Yes, my chip. Anyway, when you were in the warehouse, I pulled you out of that. The only way Ava tracked you was when Losnic pulled himself up off his falling chair. Yes, I was watching that too. Losnic, tell me, when you disappeared then what did you see?”
“I saw… you! Then that was quickly replaced with the image of Ava.” Losnic said quickly.
“Yes, you saw me.” Biscuit smiled. “Then you saw Ava. It would seem you have a different chip to mine. Anyway, I tracked your path through this universe and somehow you jumped out of it into my space that I built. Four feet forward and you and I would have shared the same space. Lucky you weren’t where Hacker was. Two objects can’t exist in the same place at the same time.” Biscuit said, quoting Newton.
“So you pulled us out of there… cool. Thanks buddy.” Hacker said. “Now what do we do about our little problem here?”
“Hm? Oh, you mean Blast. Well… he’s gone. Literally. Disappeared completely.”
“What? Can’t you track him?”
“I tried to but he was moving very very quickly. He was hopping around this planet for a little bit and then he just disappeared.”

Hacker turned back to the Sentinel and used its search function. He typed in “Blast” and hoped it would work. It did. The Sentinel was showing Blast to be right behind them, right where Biscuit was. Biscuit leaned over to see what was on the screen.

“Oh dear.” Biscuit muttered and then exploded. Blast now stood where Biscuit was.
“Chunky.” Blast said, disappearing and re-appearing with a clean set of clothes on. Losnic looked like he was ready to throw up but he held it back.
“What do you want?” Hacker yelled at Blast.
“Power and revenge.” Blast said calmly.
“You can’t have either.” Hacker said, pulling his gun out and shooting at Blast’s foot.
Blast and Losnic traded places and the bullet went right through Losnic’s left foot.
“Damn you!” Hacker shouted, shooting the rest of his clip at Blast.
Again, Blast and Losnic traded places and all the bullets except for three went through Losnic.
Hacker screamed and ran at Blast but Blast dodged out of the way.
“You can’t have what you can’t grab.” Blast said.
“Why?! Why are you doing this?” Hacker said, nearly crying.
“Because I can. This is only the beginning.” Blast disappeared, leaving Hacker there crying over the death of his friend caused by himself. He raised his gun to his own head and pulled the trigger. The gun clicked. He kept on crying.

ahem....there seems to be something missing here.....

...like.....MORE STORY /disgust.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'(hmph)\' />

Good twists, Radar; you make the reader pay attention all the way through the story, then throw in something entirely 90 degrees from the last twist. Keep up the good work...now would be a good time.... /blum.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' />

Losnic and Biscuit were both dead. Hacker stopped crying and wiped his nose on the sleeve of the jacket he was wearing. He now only had one purpose in his life, to stop Blast. He took one step forward and everything changed. He knew this place, it was Bismouth Industries. It was the job he did before Ava lead them to the first Sentinel facility.
"Stay still." said a woman from behind him. He tensed his muscles as the needle went into the back of his neck.

"Good to see it worked then." said the woman again when Hacker was waking up. It was dark outside. He couldn't remember where he was or when he got there.
"We thought you weren't going to make it." said a doctor who a very wrinkled face.
"Who are you people?" Hacker asked them.
"We are the people who first implanted you with the chip. You were not the only one, however, there were three other people." explained the woman.
"Who? Biscuit? Losnic?"
"No and No I'm afraid, it was actually your wife, your wife's twin and Blast. We haven't been able to locate your wife's sister though, don't ask why, it's just impossible to find her. We expected you to remember the trials, it seems like our little drug did more than just knock you out. It must have reverted your memory to before the other drug. Do you remember who Ava was?" the doctor asked Hacker.
"Yes, I do. He's dead now isn't he?" Hacker said.
"Yes yes, he's dead. We confirmed that ourselves." the doctor stated.
"Good... I hate to go through all of that again." Hacker said with a sigh of relief.
"Don't think yourself too lucky just yet, you still have Blast to contend with."
"I know" Hacker said, frowning, "I will kill him with my bare hands. He killed Losnic and Biscuit."
"And who else?" the doctor asked.
"What? Who else did he kill?" Hacker asked frantically, thinking that the drug really had an effect on his mind.
"Your wife."
Hacker looked shocked and then his face slowly turned red, then purple. He turned around and punched a clear hole through the wall behind him.
"He will die!" Hacker said, disappearing. The doctor sighed and nodded to the lady. She brought Hacker back.
"Hacker, you can't go out so unprepared."
"Why not?" Hacker yelled at him. "I want him dead for killing those who have been close to me."
"If you're not careful he'll kill you. He knows this facility exists but he was banished from it after we found out he killed your wife. He wouldn't dare come back here but there's always the chance that he could do to you what he did to Biscuit."
"And what's stopping him?! Nothing!"
"Not true, we have people who have been watching him. Although it is, as of late, been very difficult to track him. He moves so quickly, even faster than you do."
"So why are you holding me back? Why not send me with your *glorious* army and we can slaughter him?"
"In time, Hacker. In time. For now, rest. When you wake up you will be more prepared than ever."

When Hacker awoke the next morning his head hurt. He tried getting out of bed but stumbled and nearly hit the floor. The nurse grabbed him before he did.
"Where'd you come from?" he asked in a slurry voice.
"Where do you think?" she asked sarconically.
"Oh yeah. What'd you do to me? Inject me with vodka?" Hacker said, still slurring his words.
"No, we actually put you under anaesthesia overnight, well it was actually over two days. It's been two days since we brought you here." she explained.
"What's with the pain then?"
"Oh that? Well the pain is the reason for the anaesthesia. We put a new chip in you."
"And what's it do now?"
"The same as your old one but it can speed up your thought processes but only if you're adrenalin levels are high. The higher your adrenalin levels, the quicker you can do things."
"Cool, anything else?"
"Nope that's about it."
"So when does the drowsiness wear off?"
"Right about now." said the nurse, pulling out a nine millimeter and pointing it at Hacker's head. Hacker disappeared and reappeared behind her grabbing the gun from her hand just as she disappeared and firing off a shot at her.
"Good." she shouted from down the hallway, "It would seem like it works now."
"That wasn't funny you know, I could have killed you."
"I could have killed you too." she mocked "How do you feel now?"
"Much better." Hacker said. "Do you know where Blast is?"
"Come on, even you should know how to find him by now. Look for his chip using the Sentinel. He's bound to be somewhere. Oh, speaking of the Sentinel we also upgraded that and now it searches the majority of the multi-verse." the nurse said.
"Thanks." Hacker said, disappearing from the room.

Hacker re-appeared in the Sentinel room, he walked up to the Sentinel and entered Blast's name into a search field. The lines across the globe faded into nothing until one stood out, bright red against the globe. It was Blast's trail. Where he was travelling to and from and how he was doing it. Hacker showed as a green dot on the screen. The dot stopped in one place a short time afterwards. It didn't seem to be doing anything. Then a red line joined Blast and Hacker's dots and Blast was travelling along the line. Hacker jumped out of the chair and pulled out a gun and pointed it at the chair, keeping his eyes fixed on the screen. Blast's dot finally got to it's destination, right in the chair. Blast materialised and Hacker made contact with the gun to Blast's head. Blast jumped.

"Oh, it's you." Blast said.
"That's right. Why did you do it, Blast?"
"Why not? Don't you think that it has been fun chasing me and my friend around the place?"
"Do you think it would have been fun?"
"Oh I would have had a jolly good time chasing you if our positions were switched."
"Just answer the question so I can splatter your brains all over the Sentinel."
"Just my brains?"
"Answer it!" Hacker yelled.
"Ok. If you want answers you can get them." Blast said, swinging around on his chair and keeping a calm expression on his face, even with Hacker's nine in it.
"It all started with the trials. That's when your wife and I met. She was beautiful and she was stuck with you, of all people."
"I don't remember you. Why not? I thought I got all of my memory back." Hacker interrupted.
"You only got back the parts Bismouth wanted you to get back. They kept the remainder. May I continue my story?"
"The quicker you finish it the quicker you die. Make it quick." Hacker said.
"Yes, she was quite beautiful. We met in the dorms one night when you were out drinking with your mates. I asked her if she wanted to leave you and come with me, she didn't of course, she felt too sorry for you and your... limited group of friends. This did not impress me at all, from that moment on I felt contempt for her. I think she felt the same way too. She kept trying, and succeeding, to outdo me in the trials. She was always wonderful at that. Keeping a long story short, she annoyed me in one particular trial. She had to move me to another point in a room but instead she put me through a wall, horizontally. You realise how long I was stuck there? No, of course you don't. She made me feel real stupid. I tried to get myself out of there but I couldn't. When they did eventually free me, the next morning, I went after her and killed her. You saw the end result. Wasn't she pretty?"
"Screw you! Die!" Hacker said.
"Not yet, I haven't finished my story. You asked why and I haven't finished explaining WHY exactly yet."
"After I killed her I erased the memories of you and Biscuit and befriended Losnic and a new guy who called himself Ava. I sent them both after you. I beleived that you knew the location of the Sentinel. Unfortunately, the person who *did* know was sitting right under my nose the whole time, it was Losnic. Remember? He drove you there, to the first one. You destroyed it and attempted to kill Ava in the explosion but somehow he was still alive. We retreated back to Bismouth Industries, of course this was all before they knew I killed your wife, and they did a good job of healing him. Shame about his face though, they couldn't quite get that right and they didn't know why. We explained our story on the second to last night we were supposed to be there and they gave us clearance to go after you and Losnic. As you would surely know, we failed in that respect, hence why you are holding a gun to my head and asking the questions."
"Why did they have to die? Why Biscuit? Why Losnic?"
"Because they both knew. They both knew where the Sentinel was. They both knew about the Project and every single one of its employees. They knew everything there was to know and to pass that knowledge on was to be the end of me. Apparently so it was not."
"Any last words?"
"Yes, one, die." Blast said, pulling out a gun of his own and firing off a shot at Hacker. It grazed his arm as he turned around. Another shot fired, this time it sounded further away. It was from another gun and Hacker couldn't beleive who was holding it. The gun was pointed at where Blast's head used to be, a woman holding it.
"It can't be." Hacker said, tears coming to his eyes.
"It is, technically." said the woman.
"What? Oh, you have a twin." Hacker said, frowning.
"Her and I shared you, Michael." Hacker's wife said. "We both had equal feelings for you and we both switched occasionally. I'm amazed you didn't know the difference. My twin sent me a message somehow through the chip telling me she was in danger, so I hid. For all this time. Then, just a few minutes ago, I came out of hiding and here I am now, yet again by your side."
Hacker dropped his gun and ran to her and hugged her for what seemed like an eternity.
"What now?" Hacker asked her.
"We carry on with our lives. Forgetting about the chip, forgetting about everything. At this moment Bismouth is working on shutting down all Sentinels and the entire Project." she explained.
"Very well then." Hacker said and they walked hand-in-hand out of the Sentinel facility.
