Well... i thought i might post this just for something to do.

The words "Black" and "White" are opposite in meaning. Name two more words, one rhyming with black and the other rhyming with white, that are also opposite in meaning.

Let's turn this into a game... the person who answers must post another brain teaser, or riddle, something that makes you think, aslong as it has something in it that can be answered, it should be fine.

how about \"slack\" and \"tight\" .... and here\'s a really tough brain teaser .... Name two words in the english language that are both antonyms and homonyms.

In case you don\'t know:

antonym - words of opposite meaning
homonym - words that when pronounced, sound the same. They may have different meanings or spellings.

lol..... this is a really tough one .... so I\'ll add a little clue:

Think of the building of a barn and the taking down of a barn.

As well one of the words is rarely used and many people have never heard of it. That\'s what makes this one so tough.

Cool, now I guess this means it\'s my turn for a brain teaser.... how about this:

Billy and his new bride Brenda were speeding down a country road toward the city. Suddenly Billy\'s car began to sputter and eventually came to a complete stop. Realizing he was out of gas, Billy decided to go get help. Before leaving, he told Brenda to lock all four doors and keep the windows rolled up tight. When Billy returned to the car he found his new bride dead and another person in the car. The windows and doors were still locked and closed, and the car was undamaged.

How did Brenda die, and who was the other person?

Here\'s some hints:
She was NOT murdered
She did NOT commit suicide

okay mmm here's one from school:

replace the following letters with 0 - 9 to make the equation true
INTERNET + MAINTAIN = FIREWALL

Just a note, if the I in internet equals 3 then the I in maintain and firewall will also equal 3.

Do the numbers all have to be different? Because if they can be the same then if they were all set equal to zero OR if just F and M were equal to each other it would work.

eg. 00000000 + 00000000 = 00000000
OR
00000000 + 10000000 = 10000000
00000000 + 20000000 = 20000000
00000000 + 30000000 = 30000000
etc.

If they all have to be different, I\'ve got a brute force program (with about 9 embedded loops) working on it right now /smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' /> .... may take a few hours/days though...lol

sorry i meant to explain that better, not just that if A = 5 then the rest of the A's should, but each different letter should be different, all matching letters can have the same value as one another.

lol.... cheating is fun!

How about:

INTERNET + MAINTAIN = FIREWALL
49267962 + 35492549 = 84760511

That is:
I = 4
N = 9
T = 2
E = 6
R = 7
M = 3
A = 5
F = 8
W = 0
L = 1

I\'ll post a new brain teaser tonight... can\'t think of one off hand and I\'ve gotta run right now.

Hey Rift, do you know of anyone that has solved that last problem without writing a computer program?
My dad (not knowing how to program) has been busting his brain trying to work it out and has had little success.

Okay, I\'ve got one....

When the day after tomorrow is yesterday, today will be as far from Wednesday as today was from Wednesday when the day before yesterday was tomorrow. What is the day after this day?

tomorrow?

Explanation

When the day after tomorrow is yesterday, today will be as far from Wednesday as today was from Wednesday when the day before yesterday was tomorrow. What is the day after this day?

day after tomorrow is yesterday = today

today will be as far from Wednesday as today was from Wednesday when the day before yesterday was tomorrow (used to confused you - which worked for 5 mins b4 i looked at the next bit)

What is the day after this day? <---- this day being today, the following day will logically and technically speaking be tomorrow /smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

Am i right? /unsure.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':unsure:\' />

Merry Christmas Mr Snakey /smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' /> ..... well I\'m certainly NOT going to say that you are wrong. However, I should have clearly stated that the answer should be the actual name of a day of the week, although you definately appear to be on the right track! /smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

Rift you are correct! .... the answer is Thursday. However, I\'m not sure but I think you may have made a lucky assumption by assuming \"this day\" was Wednesday.

Here\'s the logic:

First set up all days of the week in such a structure.... hmm... I need columns
okay, forget trying to explain it in here.... one sec
Okay I\'m back and have made a web page to explain it.

The real confusion in this one is the different instances in time referred to in the use of the word today. As you can see Mr_S was correct when he said tomorrow, but that was a little too easy. Mr_S also made the important connection that \"This day\" refers to \"Today\" when \"today\" refers to the present.

Anyway, way to go Rift! ..... Looks like it\'s your turn.

actualy that is wrong it's not 9, 9, 9, 9 it's only 9 9 9 9 and since that was a funny attempt but wrong even in technicality ill be more descriptive:P... it's a valid mathmatical statement using four nines that make it sum up to one hundred lol

one hour

you get the pills from the doctor, you take one, then half an hour later, you take another, thats 2 pills and then you take another, which is 3 pills.

e.g
10:00 pm - pill one
10:30 pm - pill two
11:00 pm - pill three

Total time = 1 Hour
