The Journey

It's really so simple;
But perhaps that is why
So many folks miss it--
They rush right on by,
They're in such a hurry
To get to the end
That all they can think of
Is what's round the bend.

'Tis the journey, itself
That's the true adventure;
But they get so caught up--
Slaves sold to indenture--
They forget to enjoy
The view 'long the way.
They forget to live now--
To celebrate "Today!"

They deprive themselves
Of being truly whole,
For all they can think of
Is attaining the goal.
So narrowly focused,
They chose to ignore
Life's simple pleasures,
It's abundant store.

The end is the end,
They cannot recover
Opportunities passed
That they failed to discover.
Someday they'll look back
And they'll ask themselves, "Why?
Was I rushing to this moment
Simply to die?"
