The massively successful PC strategy game, Total War was used to recreate the slaughter from famous historical battles and we mention this for two reasons. One, it was a good demonstration of how things might have turned out had had the Greek invasion of Troy been directed by \'Mark from sales\' and two, because the latest incarnation of the Total War series will be heading to PS2 in September.

While the original PC game was famous for its epic, historical battles, with countless minions charging the battlefield under your command; Spartan: Total War, takes a slightly different route. The bloody great dust-ups are still there but this time you won\'t be shouting helpful hints from the safety of your general\'s spectator box, oh no. This time you\'ll be right in the thick of it all. You can still direct your troops but at the same time you\'ll now be able to show \'em how it\'s done with your own range of close combat skills, combos and special moves.

The more bloodthirsty take on sandal-based strategy also promises some massive battlefields to fight through and a mix of mythical monsters thrown in for good measure. With the huge success of the original PC version, we\'ve got high hopes for Spartan: Total Warrior when it charges the PS2 front later this year.
