Ok, you might have wondererd why my sig says to@ds - Self Progression Sessions, well this song is part of that. The S.P.S's are basicly me trying to move into a new direction with differant medias and formats, part of that is music which plays just as bigger part of my life as graphic design. Im hoping to expand this whole idea into a kind of mixed media experience that will eventualy become a sister site to the online portfolio that Im working on, but enough babling. This tune is a very chilled out, ambient song, done in a broken beat/be-bop/jazz style. Its only a short song just over 3 minutes so please take a listen and let me know what you think about it. The song was made using royalty free samples found on breakbeatparadise.com and was put together with Ejay(yes I know ejay sucks pretty badly, but it really dosent sound like an Ejay track, I promise you) which I used to arrange the samples to bring the track together. When making this tune I wanted to pay homage to my favourite Drum 'n' Bass artist LTJ Bukem, and also to master of jazz by the name of Herbie Hancock. Bukem brings to Drum 'n' Bass a very jazzy and funky feel to his music, alot of which he admits has come from masters of jazz like Herbie Hancock and Otis Redding. As its mainly in homage to Bukem, I decided to call the song Stukem. Please take a listen and let me know what you think. Ratings, C&C, comments and any ideas for improvements are all welcome. Enjoy! I\'m having a hard time finding the beat. I can get 4 beats out of it, but then the percussion does something funky that screws with the 4/4. Do you have signature changes? Also, I like the uses of chromatics. /smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

You(Dren) couldnt get a 4/4 beat because broken beat by nature is not a 4/4 beat style of music like dance or trance is. I like the way you said "funky" for the precussion, cus thats the style I was going for, a kind of mix of broken beat, with a slight jazz lick too it.

yea, i find it hard to listen too cause theres no natural flow with it. The sound itself is very nice though, it sounds very natural.

You dont dance to ambinet music Dren, you relax to it. Its like saying Beethovens third symphony dosent make you want to do headspins and windmills so its beat and flow is wrong, and yes classical music does have beats. Same with heavy metal as well, the beat changes all the time in metal and yet people still "dance" to it, even if it is thrashing round like a gazelle on crack cocaine! Its more about a mood, or moment to get lost in, clearing your mind and focusing only on one thing, whatever it is that has put you in a frame of mind to relax too. I personaly wouldnt dance to something like this, but then I dont have much rythm for a start, its more of a bad day at work and need something to relax too tune.
