Speculation is rising over Google's expected announcement of its acquisition of Meetroduction, who make the Meetro Instant Message (IM) client.

Meetro not only includes an IM program, but also an automatic local user finding which allows you to locate nearby users who are logged in. Meetro currently supports AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo Messenger and ICQ. Before the acquisition, it was planned to include Jabber and MSN support aswell.

Personally, I'm not sure we really need a new IM client, but hey...google is our friend /wub.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' /> Anything that is google powered has the opportunity to topple Microsoft...which is what we really want.

Guess we'll watch out for a Google announcement.

So it would be a GOOGLE messenger as in it's own messenger servers etc? I seem to be confused because they mention AOL, Yahoo and MSN :\

By the sounds of it, it will resemble Trillian... not so much their own IM protocol, but a client that bounces off everyone else's.
