Butterfly Girl
Here is my final image I will be covering in this tutorial:

The girl in this image was created using Poser 4, with a great deal of editing in Photoshop. Please dont expect to create all of this in Poser. I dont know a great deal about Poser and am still learning.
This image is i think influenced by Maggie Taylor and her similar work....such as 'Girl In a Bee Dress'...a book review on her latest book "Adobe Photoshop Master Class: Maggie Taylor Landscape of Dreams" can be read here http://killanet.net/main/content/view/50/73/
Open Poser.
There may be many better ways to acheive what i will outline here, hopefully soon i will learn how and can post a new tut.
1. Window Size
The default window size for poser4 is 400x400....for this tutorial i left it at that size. If you would like to change it go to WINDOW>DOCUMENT WINDOW SIZE> your settings. When i've changed the size, say 1024x768 for a wallpaper i didnt check any of the boxes you see.
When you make the window larger, you will have to drag it around and move it as it will obscure some of the toolbars.
2. Choosing a person
This is the fun part of poser....at least its the only part i've found where i can manipulate the program.
To the right you will see a slim bar, clicking on this and a menu will appear.

2.1 Figures
The right hand menu presents you with many options. Click on Figures.-several people in different poses will be displayed below. Just below the Figures Button there is a section which says 'people" -click on the small arrow here and you will see a list of options.

I chose Characters-Female.......you can choose any you like of course.
I scrolled down and chose Natusko-again use any face you wish

Click the single check mark to confirm this choice. Click OK through the boxes that pop up.
Click the back arrow in the upper right corner of the Figures button to take you back to the main menu
You should now see a naked women in your preview window with the face you chose.
2. Poses
Click the Poses button on this right hand menu. You navigate this the same was as you did the Figures menu.
I chose Classic Sets>Strike a Pose.
Click the single check mark again to confirm your choice.
Your naked woman should now assume that pose.
Click the back button to get back to the main right hand menu
3. Hair
Now lets choose some hair. Again you navigate this menu in the same way as before.
I chose "Female Hair 4". Click the check mark when your happy with your choice.
If at any point you choose some hair, pose or face your not happy with, simply re-choose and the changes will be made.
4. Camera Angle
You should now be looking at something similar to this depending on your choices.

The bottom round camera toggle is very similar to the one in Bryce if you have ever used that. You can zoom in and around, over and above the object.
Experiment with these camera features until you are happy....for my piece i zoomed in toward the face leaving the upper body, cut off at the waist.. You can choose whatever angle you wish.
5. Materials.
Now you have chosen your angle, and, assuming you are zoomed in on the models face it is time to change her features.
Go to REDNER>MATERIALS

Use the drop down boxes indicated to change the color of her body.
I changed her lips to red, hair to black, lashes and eyebrows to black and left the skin as it was. I didnt alter any of the texture settings below. Click ok when done and the changes will be displayed. (you will need to click Figure 1 to adjust her lips etc)
6. Face Details
Your model should now have the colors on her you want, hair, pose and face decided. Here i will show you how to make some more detailed to changes to her face so that it becomes more your creation than a premade model.
Click on the face so the wireframe flashes on and off as it is selected.
To the right you will see some more options. If you look carefully you will see various options such as "lashes" "heart face" etc...this allows you to change every detail of her face. Simply hover your mose over the option until you see a double arrow pointing right and left. By clicking and moving to the left or right you can increase or decrease that option. For example, you can give the model huge pouty lips and large lashes.

7. Finished
Now that you have chosen all your features, position of body parts and camera angle it is time to use this image in photoshop.
Usually at this point you render an image by going to REDNER>RENDER (ctrl+r). However, as i am still learning, i dont like the 'scortch'marks that are shown when rendered. I am sure there is a way around this, i just havent figured it out yet!
So i dont render at this point.
BRYCE
If you wanted to use the model as an object in Bryce you would:
FILE>EXPORT>WAVEFRONT OBJ and save the file this way. The in Bryce FILE>IMPORT>select your model and have fun
PHOTOSHOP
When saving this image (there may be another way) be very careful not to hover over your image at all. Yhis can be difficult if she is wallpaper size. You will notice as your mouse pases over your model various areas are highlighted. When saving, if these areas are highlighted the image will be save like this.....for this work at least we dont want that.
Go to FILE>EXPORT>IMAGE and save your model.
8. Open Photoshop
I'm using photoshop to edit our model, but i'm sure paint shop pro would work equally as well.
*Copy your image and put it on a new layer. Deselect the old layer.
*Using Magic Wand Tool and the Eraser you need to get rid of the background (the tan color)
-Its also a good idea to use the blur and smudge tool to smooth out some of the jagged body lines at this point. There are also some rather large pixels in the face, so smooth over these too.
*Using brush sets add the hair and, in this case, butterflies to cover her breasts.
For hair i used http://fallnangeltears.deviantart.com/
For the butterflies i used my own brush set- available for download through killanet.
*Once happy with this i added a new layer, moving it behind the model and added the large wings you see. These are brushes Lotusil and i found them some time ago on Deviant Art. You can use any hair brush and wing brush you like as there are many to choose from. You can substitute the butterflies for bees or flowers if you like - or even add clothes. These choices will make the picture your own work.
*Now that you've done this add another layer. This went behind all our other work and was a background i created in photoshop. You can use any background you like - one you've made or block colors. I set the layers so that they overlayed each other until i was finally happy with Butterfly Girl.
I also used these techniques to create Pink Lips

Have fun and be sure to share your work.
