What sound does a heart make
As it finally breaks?
Does it sound like shattered glass,
Crashing to the floor
Does it scream in pain
As every shard
Cuts its way in deep;
Or is it the sound
Of a rock sinking fast?
Could it be the quiet splash
Of countless tears
Falling down unchecked;
Is there any sound at all,
When your world falls apart.
Is there any echo
Inside the hole that's left
Deep inside the remnants
Of your tortured soul?
Ghosts living in the past
They overtake you
When all hope is crushed;
In their grasp they leave you
Standing silent and alone -
High on the edge
Of every fading dream;
If the suffocating pain
As it surrounds you now
Was allowed a voice
What would it say?
Would it make the sound
A heart makes when it breaks?
