my turn

theres a guy he walks up to a fork in the road, one road leads straight to heaven and one to hell. There are two brothers, ones on the road to heaven and the other one on the road to hell. One of the brothers always lies, and the other one always tells the truth. If you had to ask only one, one question so that you could get to heaven, what would you ask?

hmmm, this is a tough one. I'm thinking that there's got to be a way to word a question that you already know part of the answer to, so you can determine if they are telling the truth or not. I've got a question though, can it be assumed that the brother who tells the truth is standing infront of the road going to heaven and that the brother who lies is standing infront of the road going to hell?

Suppose you have an open topped box that is 5cm x 5cm x 5cm. (capacity: 125 cubic centimeters) Inside the box is a steel ball-bearing that is 25 cubic centimeters in size. Next to the box is a two liter pail filled with mercury. How many cubic centimeters of mercury would you have to pour into the box to completely submerge the ball bearing?

Way to go mobil! ..... yes that's correct, mercury is so dense that steel floats in it, therefore it would be impossible to submerge the ball-bearing in an open topped box.

I'd have to agree with Josh .... "availability" only has 6 syllables.

Oh and to make sure that there is no question as to whether or not a word is indeed a word in the english language, it might be a good idea to check [url="http://www.hyperdictionary.com/"]this online dictionary[/url].

HERE'S A HINT: think of prefixes and suffixes (they add syllables)

Just incase anyone is interested here are some other words that people have come up with:

unconstitutionally
unenthusiastically

and if WingX had only added "un" to his word it would have had 7 syllables (ie. unavailability)

my guess is:

put 3 on each side of the scale (obviously one left out)

if at this stage they balance out, then the one left out is the lightest...

if one side topples, whichever side is the lightest (obviously the one which is above the other)

take 2 coins from that side (2 of the three coins), and put them on opposite ends of the scale

if the scales balance, then the one you left out of this last weighing is the lightest...

if they tip, then the lightest (highest) is your lightest
